Went looking for a small 45ACP carry

While I usually carry my G30SF, I went looking for a smaller 45ACP carry for when size matters. I initally looked at the XDS but spent a little more for the Kahr PM45 as I liked how this felt in my hand over the XDS. Took a few comparison shots with my G30SF:

I have a Glock 36 if I want to carry 45 ACP. I also have a Detonics Combat Master V 1911 but it's still not ready for Prime Time(I just acquired it).

Hope it runs better than mine did. I owned one for a whopping 3-weeks. Of that 3-weeks, Kahr had it for two. Mine was a POS.

Thanks - I did read that these had some growing pains when they were first introduced but more recent review have shown them to be running better now.

Yup, I found the PM45 to be quite problematic (circa 2011) as well. I also found Kahr's G.A.S. attitude toward customer service to be frustrating after a couple of trips back to them with this gun.

Meanwhile my 36 keeps chugging along.

Perhaps my past experience is not indicative of your future results.

ive owned a K9 and an MK9, seems all that i read regarding Kahr problems is with their polymer guns regardless (irregardless for the under 70 i.q. folks) of caliber.......why?

Agree, if you do read of somone having issues, it is with a polymer Kahr - but that is not to say that they ALL have issues as I've never had an issue with a PM9 and a PM40 that i have owned. Most folks don't post that their gun is running fine as we expect them to. Only time will tell how this PM45 will function. I will post up comments as soon as I can get some range time.

My Kahr is good, but what do you have against the G-36. My G-36 is wonderful.

I like the G36 but it is the same length and height as the G30 only thinner. I wanted something a tad smaller in all measurements.

Another way to make the gun seem thinner would be to just get some sort of kydex holster for it. Most of the nylon stuff is quite a bit thicker, but I can't tell from your pics how thick the holsters are.

If you want accuracy and reliability try a STI Escort in .45 cal. Not one problem of any kind with mine. Absolutely love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you have a reliable weapon with your PM45. Mine was not.

On the other hand, I currently own 4 other Kahrs
A CW45, CW9, CM9, and a K9. They have been nothing but 100% reliable.

i tried the CW45, i liked the feel but it wouldn't chamber hornady or tulammo(or any premium SD ammo, i tried several at my dealer). i liked that it had 7 round mags, but.
i switched to the G36 and other than round count it is superior in every way. the kahr also had issues with the slide lock spring, in the 45 it is suseptable to loosening. i have a CM9 that works super, never had any of the issues of the CW45 and i have complete faith in as a conceal carry piece.

my opinion is go with the G36, unless you want to wait and see how the Sprinfield XDS45 turns out.

I'm sure there are a lot of PM45's out there that function correctly and I hope cal45 has one of them. Unfortunately, mine did not. Neither did my P380, PM40 and P45. On the other hand, my PM9 has been flawless since day one in November 2002.

I've tried the Sig P250SC in .45, and just this morning I rid myself of an XDS. Nice pistols, but not for me.

If I'm going to carry a .45 I'll stick with my Kimber Ultra CDP II and / or the 36.

My son had a PM 45 which was problematic also. Ended up trading it in for a 36. He wanted to trade me for my G30 and when I shot or tried to shoot it I told him he should have just bought the 36. No he asks Dad before he buys guns.

I really liked the PM45 I had, it felt great in my hand, unfortunately it didn't function reliably and I just never felt confident carrying it, this weapon seems to be a real hit and miss proposition, you either get one that works or you don't. After 2 trips back to Kahr it went bye-bye. I think the XDS might be my next attempt at a small .45, just need to let the new wear off, so I don't feel violated purchasing one.

Agree - it seens to be a hit or miss wirh the PM45 as you can see from the folks that posted their experiences on this thread. Over on Kahrtalk, there are a lot of folks that have PM45's that function just fine. Hoping to get some range time this weekend to see how mine shoots. In regards to the XDS, so far so good on the folks that have them and have posted reviews - it appears that these 45's work fine.

My PM45 works well, unless I limp-wrist it.

I've got 200 rounds through it, and it doesn't jam for me. I do have concerns about weak hand use. I don't think I could hold it firmly enough with one hand - especially my weak hand - to ensure reliable functioning.

It's a tough call for me. I love having a .45 in my pocket, and a spare mag on my belt, but a S&W 642 might be a better choice, one I may make in the near future. I know it won't be as concealable in the pocket as the PM45 (which absolutely disappears in my daily wear) but I think it will work.

I plan to put at least 500 more rounds through my Kahr before I make that choice.

I'm holding out hope the Kahr will introduce a CM45.

At $400 I'll would take the plunge. I had a XDs in my hand the other day and I was not too impressed.
