Grand Cherokee Center Console
Can someone tell me if a standard size Glock will fit in the center console of a 2003 Grand Cherokee? Somehow I don't think Cabela's is going to let me walk one out to my vehicle to see if it fits. I'm leaning toward getting either a Glock 17 or 22 but would consider going to a 19 or 23 if it fit in the console better.

I don't have a Cherokee but, I would go with the 19 or 23 anyway. That longer barrel on the 17/22 guns would be more difficult to retrieve quickly from your console. Besides, if you decide to carry it, the 19/23 is a much easier gun to deal with. Get the 19 or 23 and you will be happy.

If you'll give me 5 minutes, I'll run out and check.

The G17/22 are 7.95" long and 5.43" high.
So just measure a stick or something that long and see if it fits!

Here is a better question. Why on earth would you buy a gun from a big box store like cabelas? I'm guessing you will pay $75-100 more at Cabelas than a small gun store.

Ok... didn't fit great. It closes, but it'll kinda "lay" there, and renders the rest of the console largely useless. That's a Gen 4 21 in there. The 26 fit fine, and I don't have a compact to try. One place I recommend is on the passenger side, right next to the parking brake. Mount a holster right there, and you can easily draw. If it's just to leave in the car, the console is acceptable, but I'd rather leave it under the rear seats. There's definitely room there, and it won't be on the top of anyone's list to check if they get in.
Mine is an '04.

From what I have seen at the nearest Cabellas to me try 200 more than I can pick one up in town for.
While I like Cabellas for fishing, camping gear it's the last place I would go to buy a firearm, but that's just me. SJ 40

I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee and my model 22 in a concealed holster doesn't fit comfortably. If I drive the Jeep I normally slide the gun between the seat and the console. Now it is hidden and easly accessed. If I need to leave the gun in the vehicle I just slide it under the seat.

Wow that's a small center console. Makes me appreciate my FJ Cruiser. I can fit a up to a G34 in mine. Just made a bracket from some scrap metal and used rivets to attach it.

This, I looked at the prices a bass pro yesterday, just for s&g's, and the gen 3s were more than gen 4s from a lgs. They were at least 549 and the 4 was at least 609.

Do you have your ccw? Get a quality iwb holster and dont worry about leaving it in the console.

Thank you very much. That fits worse than I expected. I like the idea of mounting a holster between the parking brake and passenger seat.

No, not yet. In fact I don't own a handgun yet. I just started shooting at an indoor range in May with rented G17/19s. Still have to get my wife ("I don't want a gun in the house") to come around plus decide if I want a standard size or compact, 9mm or .40 cal. I'm going to rent a G22 or 23 some time this coming week to see what I think of the .40S&W. I'm looking forward to it.
Here's the thing: I'm not sure I'll ever get to CCing in stores, at the mall, etc. I'm not saying I never will but from past experience, I've never felt the slightest threat walking around stores or other places. HOWEVER, where I have definitely been uncomfortable at times is while driving around. It seems to me that is where the greatest threat is. You have to share the road with all sorts of wackos.

Yeah, I haven't ever tried to fit the full sized Glocks in it before, so I was a bit surprised as well. It seems like it's the size of the Grand Canyon when trying to get my wallet out of there, though lol.

I know this isn't really the purpose of the thread, but hopefully this won't go too off-topic... for an "only" or "first" gun, I will always suggest a sub-compact. They are small, but expandable. If you got a 27, you could easily put a 22 or 23 magazine and the respective grip extension, and get a good full-sized/compact feel (not the same as the actual full-size or compact, but close). You can also get 9mm or .357 Sig barrels for it (both sub-compact and compact lengths). So it is really as versatile as it gets.
26 with 17 magazine/extension and 21
