Albanian SKS's

I was cleaning up and came across these Albanians I bought years back. Two are dated 1970, one 1967, one 1968. I also have another not pictured that doesn't have a date on it, just a ep'd letter with two or three digits, and that's the one I shoot. The others were in the shipping box still packed in gritty grease, certainly doesn't look like any cosmoline I've come across.

Very nice little collection of Simonovs.

Very nice.

What or how do the markings on Albanians differ from the others? I know the stock is different... any other points of contrast or comparison? (don't see Albanian SKSs too often ya know? like... never in my life to date)

No markings on the one I cleaned, just an EP'd serial number. Double storage in the buttplate, and not sure how many parts are common with other SKS's. The stocks on these are all beat to crap for sure.

The Albanian SKS's are based on the later Chinese SKS's and not on the Soviet ones. Other than the longer hand guards and the AK-like charging handles, the parts are very similar to the Chinese models.

The Soviets originally used the spike bayonet but switched to the blade bayonet. The Chinese got a few early Soviet models but started making them wiith the blade bayonets. Then around 1965 the Chinese switched to the spike bayonet because they found that using the blade bayonet put too much stress on the rifles.

Darn nice set of SKS rifles. I like them alot. I believe the Albanian rifles are hard to come by if I remember right. I think I have owned every version except the Albanian model. Wish I had them back now.

From what I recall is that roughly 8000 were imported. I get an Email from Allan's Armory once in awhile, and he does have a few Albanians now and then.

I'm STILL kicking myself for not picking up a crate of those Alby's when AIM had them back in 2004. I think they were $225 per at the time.

The non matching shooter grade ones above were $79.00 shipped, and the matching were $149.00/ $159.00? shipped. They also had a grade around $129.00 IIRC. I could check the bound book for when these were bought, and these did come from AIM.
