Just The Front

I have been toying with the idea of putting a front night-sight on my Gen 3 26 and 19. Glock parts has a Glock sight for $40 and Ameriglo for $25 each. With a cheap-o tool for $8, I can replace the current sights myself for $60 - 90. Does the front sight need anything special?

I know the rear sights have different heights but since the existing ones will stay, are the front sights different heights? I am only replacing 9mm pistols' sights.

Anything else I need to know? This is my first excursion into the land of night sight / replacement. Thanks for any input!

A dab of red locktite and don't overtighten the screw. Finger tight on the tool is plenty.

If you're gonna use the stock rear sight, I'd use an Ameriglo .125" W front.

Check out Ameriglo's website. They have a bunch of stuff.

My favorite nightsights are an Ameriglo plain black standard rear with a .165" notch and a standard tritium front, .140" wide.

Thank you, kind sir, I kinda figured the LocTite was a given and the sights at Glock Parts were, indeed .125" W. Just ordered 2 and the cheap-o tool I mentioned is an Ameriglo part, too.

Now, just waiting for the mail! Thanks for the info.

if you ordered from ameriglo it comes with the tool to install. so you will end up with 3 tools now. i use blue on all Glock front sites i have installed. Degrease all the parts. put a drop in the hole in the front site. the next step, which is very important, is to get a pin to get the air bubble out of the hole. if you don't, all the loc tite is just sitting on the top of the air. put a little blue on the base also. this will fill any voids.then put some on the screw and tighten. DO NOT over tighten or the screw will break and you will have junk night site. eyeball the site to make sure its straight. let it dry before you shoot it.

Thanks for that info. Never thought about the pin but that makes sense. I planned to degrease with alcohol (as usual) and then go thru the steps you provide. Very good idea and I am glad you wrote this!

Know anybody who needs a sight tool or 2 ?

Just got and installed the GG-412 front sights on my G26 and G19. So far, I like them but the glow only lasts a few minutes and not the 30 minutes stated on the package and definitely not the 2 hours total!

I emailed Ameriglo and asked for comment. I used a VERY bright LED flashlight to charge the sights so that wasn't / isn't the problem.

AND ..... in a FYI, the front sights only don't come with a tool for installation. The complete sets seem to have a tool, so I am glad I ordered one because I only have 1 and not 3.
