This is not the way to disassemble a 1911 if you have a precise bbl to bushing fit common on many 1911's.

Edit: also note the idiot scratch you've created on the frame while rotating the slide stop.

Great job on the video sans the above.

Agree 100%. An alternate method which addesses the tight barrel/bushing/slide and avoiding an idiot scratch is presented here:

There are always more ways than one to skin a cat. I find the method I demonstrate in the video to be the easiest method for me, others may find popping the slide stop first to be the better method for them.

I'd say that anyone who gets all worked up over a scratch here or there probably should not bother with functioning firearms, but simply purchase a replica and put it in a glass case and admire it as a museum piece.

Working firearms will get their share of dings, scratches and dents. And that's ok.

The point is that going after a tightly fit 1911 as shown in your video will adversely affect the barrel/bushing fit over time. How much time--don't know but as long as there's an alternative method that wont mess up the pistol, I'll go that way. Whether it's "easier" or not isn't too important, when the difference in "easiness" is measured in minutes, if that.

As for scratch prevention, there aren't too many of us who would/could laugh off a nasty assembly scratch on a new 1911, whether it cost $500 or $5000, when there are easy, alternate methods for assembly available. Honest handling wear is one thing--easily avoidable mistakes causing an ugly blemish are another.

Agreed. In fact the method portrayed in the video is often seen in owner's manuals. However, if you are aware the method used in your video degrades accuracy on some 1911s with precision fit bushings it would be best to disclose this fact.

There's a difference between unintentional and avoidable... It's referred to as "Idiot" scratch for a reason

Again, nice video as a whole. Please consider another which would avoid these two issues.

Not too bad. Should reshoot it tho showing the correct way to put in the recoil spring. That could be a problem if someone sees that and puts it in backwards. I know there is a note, but of you are doing a "how to video", it should be right. Not being rude, just saying.

BMF, yes, that's kind of what that very large and very prominently displayed note was all about on the video. You are just saying, something kind of silly.

Nope, it's just fine as it is.

But if you want to make a video on it, go for it.

I use a piece of a business card stock, when putting the pin back in, As a pre caution to help keep the Idiot Scratch from happening. Its a little assurance for me.

Thanks for the work on the video. Clear explanation and well done technically.

Very informative for a non 1911 owner. Always good to know how to field strip what comes my way.

You are making an instructional video. There should be no notes to describe your mistake. If you are making a video on how to do something, it should be 100% and you should know what you are doing.

I got a question for you. Is this video as factual as the book you wrote that you got called out on by revoking the book's doctrinal review certification? Basically even your peers in the church think you are a moron too, right?

Hard to believe, after reading your posts here, that you are,
or claim to be a Lutheran Minister.

Why the user I'd change ptmccain?

I can understand a novice doing it (idiot scratch) once. I can't understand anyone who has done it once doing it again. Scratching up a nice gun simply because you are too lazy to learn proper reassembly??? Hell, use an aid (tape, card, etc.) if you have to. It's easily done correctly...unless, of course, you really are an idiot. In that case, I'd suggest you avoid functioning firearms and simply purchase a replica to play with, LOL. I was an FFL holder and sold guns for 10 years or thereabouts. 1st thing people notice on a used 1911 is that scratch (if there).

A scratch from use is one thing. A scratch due to ignorance of
the weapon is shameful. It's called an "idiot scratch" for a reason.
