So, I'm leaving the library yesterday......
And this guy is OPEN CARRYING on the way in.....
I didn't stick around to see if they asked him to leave, or not. I had to get home, eat, and clean up for church service.....
But, he was OPEN CARRYING.....
IN PUBLIC!!!!!
But he forgot to put this on:

Maybe the guy had an overdue book or video. When it comes to overdue books and videos, you know how tough those lady liberians can get!

doesnt VA have preemption?? I doubt he could be asked to leave a publicly owned library. I know even quasi government entities such as Waterside can not ban individuals from carrying

Well, yeah. I didn't take that into account. The library is a CITY DEPARTMENT

You live in one of, if not the, gun friendliests states in the country and you've never seen this before?

I forget where I saw the pic originally. The model is GeckoGirl. She is kind of well-known around some Second Amendment forums......

Why is the library different from anyplace else? It is not federal property, or a country courthouse, or VCU or GMU.

Didn't mean to even IMPLY it was wrong in any way. Just the first time I had seen someone do it. At the library.

Maybe you yourself need to embrace the freedom you in VA enjoy and go OC yourself! You must be from Nortern VA.

Maybe he was a cop?
But anyway, what was your first mental reaction / thought / emotion to seeing this?

Some girl stabbed me with her pencil at the public library. She heard my brother say someone was fat and thought I said it about her. Didn't hurt as bad as getting bonked by a girl and her metal lunch box but I did squeal loud enough an adult hushed me. Libraries can be dangerous.

I am sure I said NOTHING to offend you. Now take that back!!!!!
The only thing I can OC at present would draw attention at the library or anywhere else. All I own right now is an AR-15.
I just noticed {for the first time} someone OC-ing somewhere I had never noticed someone doing it before. I swear I did not mean for it to sound like I am against it or something. Anybody who got that idea, GOT THE WRONG IDEA
God, Can't even comment about stuff that happens at the library any more.
Last time I reported something happening, the thread got locked.

Kind of like on the internet forums - People continually flip someone off who they know is obligated to not break the rules in response. Yeah, usually that type of stupidity eventually yields the rewards that are earned.
And then there are those trying so hard to be offended that they're imagining things that haven't even been said in a thread.

Trust me, open carry is easier up here than in several other parts of Virginia. I know, I have been doing it for five years all over this area with only one negative encounter. And that was from a customer in a McDonald's. He claimed he was a retired LEO but judging from his accent, he was from somewhere up in the northeast.

Anything north of I-40 is too far north.

Open Carry is easy here, too.
I have seen it:
In Wally World
In Home Depot
In Food Lion
In Krogers
In Dominion Outdoors {OBVIOUSLY}
Just made a passing comment that this was the first time I saw someone do it here at the library.

Our local library system was kind enough to hire unarmed old fat guys & put up a NO WEAPONS sign on the front of ever branch. Because of this I feel totally safe and wish I had time to go there every day.

I wasn't offended at all. Sounds like you need to expand your weapons cache. Although legal yea carring an AR around will probably get you attention you don't want.
When I lived in VA ,Glouster- I loved the fact most folks didn't pay you no mind as long as you kept out of there buisness. Most of the anti -carry crap came from those up north around D.C. though the Hamptons are not that gun friendly either. Especially Norfolk. To many years of the Gangs running around shooting folks.

Speaking of libraries. My wife is a librarian at our local college. She carries but on campus your weapons must be left in the car. She would like to cc at work. Do you have any idea how many weirdos come into libraries to use the computers and just hang out and read ?

You'd be surprised. We don't see what you believe to the the case up in my area (Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William County, Arlington, and the city of Falls Church). I live in western Prince William County about 6-7 miles from Manassas and all is well in the world of OC'ing here.
