SLR93 & SLR 96 comparison

Does anybody know what the differences are between the SLR 93 and SLR 96? Both have thumb hole stocks and are Bulgarian milled receivers. They seem almost identical. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for your info.

The SA-93 had a wood stock, no lower tang and 45 degree gas block.

The SLR-95 had a synthetic stock, no lower tang and 90 degree gas block. SLR-95MB had a muzzle brake.

The SLR-96 same as SLR-95 but with wood stock.

Thanks for the reply, Deckguns.

I have to take from that info that the manufacturer thought the 90 degree gas block would be an improvement. Did that prove out to be correct? and... Are there any functional or reliability differences among the three rifles?

No, not in my experience.

The 93 has the traditional full heavy milled receiver barrel. The 95 and 96 have a newer hybrid barrel that in the military configuration has a lug below the gas block that accepts the under barrel grenade launchers. The newer barrel is thinner from the hand guard retainer forward. The newer barrel would have a sling mount on the hand guard retainer where the older design would have the sling mount at gas block. The 93 has a vented gas tube. The 95 and 96 have vented gas blocks instead. Bulgaria changed the design to make the rifle slightly lighter weight but mainly to allow stamped receiver AKM and AK-74 type under barrel grenade launchers to be mounted.

Thanks for the reply, Glock Guy...
Do the same differences hold true for the civilian model? I can't imagine there is any real difference in usable life of the barrel...but I'll ask the dumb question anyway...is there?

They are pretty much the same. The 93 is slightly heavier and a bit more traditional with the full thickness barrel and early style gas block / gas chamber. Some receivers are machined for the lower butt stock tang to be added and and some are not. I'm not sure the civilian versions have any sling mounts on them. They do not have bayonet or accessory lugs.
