Picked up my BG380 today with pics and P238 comparison shots RANGE REPORT
Well I picked up my BG380 today. Serial number is EBE46XX. I paid $310 before shipping off of Gunbroker. Even after shipping and transfer fees, I still saved $100 over buying it locally.
Everything seems to function well and the A-Zoom snap caps feed and eject with no problems. It fits perfectly in the Blackhawk #3 pocket holster that I've had for some time.
The trigger pull seems to be better than the one I rented or the one I handled at my LGS. Everything glides smoothly and seems to be made with great quality.
I'll be taking it to the range this weekend and will follow-up this thread with a range report. In the meantime, I thought I'd take some pictures of the BG380 and some comparison pictures with my P238.

I also wanted to add the weight differences between the two. Both weights are unloaded with an empty mag.
BG380: 12.3oz
P238: 14.4oz

Congrats, I was looking at one of those a few weeks back and like it. The extra weight should make it lighter on recoil than the LCP. For the time being I'll stick with the LCP but the BG 380 is nice.

Nice. I didn't realize the Sig was so light.

My P238 is the older type with the thinner slide. Every P238 I've seen as of late has the wider HD slide on it so I'm not sure what the weight of the current type are. I think Sig did this so they only need to make one type of slide. I've had no problems with mine.
Mine has the type on the right

Thanks so much for posting this - I've been going back and forth between the two and leaning towards the P238.
Can you weigh them fully loaded with ammo and let me know what ammo you used?
Thanks.

I weigh the guns with an empty mag like many manufactures do since bullet weights vary, but if I weigh standard ball and a popular HP round like Hornady Critical Defense.....
7 rounds of standard 95gr. ball ammo: 2.6oz
7 rounds of Hornady CD 90gr ammo: 2.3oz
BG380 fully loaded 6+1 with ball: 14.9oz
BG380 fully loaded 6+1 with Hornady: 14.6oz
P238 fully loaded 6+1 with ball: 17oz
P238 fully loaded 6+1 with Hornady: 16.7oz

Reason: because it's better to edit then leave something incorrect just so I don't have an "Edited by" at the bottom of my post.

The store tag was still on mine at a price of $440. I'm sure the gun shop felt kind of salty when they saw it went for $310. I lucked out (for once) but I saw many of them on Gunbroker for about $350 buy-it-now. Unless the savings are $100 or more, I buy local. In this case, my LGS wanted $420 before tax.

I don't know how to thank you.
For me, weight is one of the most important factors for a pocket gun. If the size and weight is comfortable for you to carry you are more likely to carry it.
I do a lot of walking and I think the P238 with a good pocket holster is doable. And I would be using the Hornady bullets. I would also, wan to carry some pepper spray. So, I would guess that I would have about 21 oz or 1 lb 5 oz of stuff in my pocket.
The 2.1 oz saved with the BD is not worth it to me. I like the P238 manual of arms.
I'm looking at the Pocket Roo holster for the option of carrying a 2nd mag (most likely not) pepper spray might work in it also.

Thanks again.

I usually carry my P238 in a D.M. Bullard holster and it's very doable.
I'm using my Blackhawk #3 as a temporary holster until I order another D.M. Bullard for the BG380. It does fit in the #3 pretty well though.

I load my LCP with Remington 102 grain BJHPs. I like the little extra weight.

I just got my BG 380 for the same price last week. Anyone know a good place where I can pick up a extra magazine? Can't understand why the gun only comes with one mag.

I picked up mine off of eBay for $21 shipped each. Midway also has them for $20.

I'm not sold on the concept of a built-in laser in a gun. What happens when the cheap, non waterproof circuitry goes tango uniform?
A guy I shoot with bought one and we had a little steel shootout with me using my p238. I beat him so badly that we decided to switch guns. Guess what? He's selling his barely used BG and getting a p238.

Curious. Why buy a BG380 if you already had a 238? Seems like a big step down.

The safeties are really easy to manipulate however the BG380 safety is harder to put on than off and completely unneeded. It's a true DA pull just like a DA revolver. The hammer lays forward at rest, it has a firing pin block and as many times as you pull the trigger the hammer keep going back and releases with no need to rack the slide. It can be carried with the safety off (which many do) or on. I could use it either way since I'm used to and train with manual safeties.

I can honestly say that I am able to shoot both quite well even though they're at opposite ends when it comes to the trigger pull. The pull on the BG380 is very smooth and extremely simple to stage if I wanted to, but pulling straight through is quite easy.
I do shoot the P238 better but that's because I've only shot 100rds with a rental BG380. I'll be heading to the range tomorrow or Sunday with both the BG380 and P238 to do some side by side shooting comparisons as well. Range report will be posted in this thread soon after.

The laser unit is pretty well sealed inside the gun. It's no less water resistant than the Crimson Trace laser guards or grips.
