Gun stores don't allow guns!

This might just be me, but it seems like every gun store that I have been in always has a "No Firearms" policy. This seems a little ridiculous to me. The employees at a gun store would seemingly be the most prepared to deal with any type of criminal situation (seeing as they all carry). It would also seem that a gun store would be the most in tune with the firearm community. They would be the most respectful of those that carry a weapon legally. I'm not saying that they have to be different from any other place that chooses not to allow weapons; you would just think that they would embrace the community more openly.

Considering how often gun stores are robbed, I can understand the policy. If I were a gun shop owner, the last thing I'd want during a robbery is having the added stress of trying to determine who needs to be shot, and who is a customer pulling out a gun trying to lend a hand.

I have never seen a gun store with such a policy, you must in some exceptional place because it seems to defy reason altogether.

I wonder if it has anything to do with people attempting (sometimes with less than perfect success) to holster and unholster loaded guns.

I've seen them, I just don't know anyone that actually pays it any attention. I asked one local owner about it, and he said that his sign is meant to keep ppl from bringing loaded firearms in that are not in a holster on the body and staying in a holster on the body.

If I were to own a gun shop, I'd have the same policy just to keep the commandos and gun slingers from "presenting" their arms and all that ninja craps.

Great excuse. I'm sure we can come up with plenty more.

When gun shops forbid guns it only gives the anti-gunners more ammo to use against us.

What a joke. There are two gun shops close to me that also prohibit customers carrying guns on their premises. I asked the owner of one of the shops and he simply stated that he didnt want anyone on his property with a loaded gun except himself and his employees. He said it made him feel better. Maybe he would feel a whole lot better if he stopped selling the guns and ammo altogether.

Also, I would like to see some data where gun shops are getting robbed. Sounds like baloney to me.

There are a couple ranges* and gun stores around here that are like that. I just don't give them my business is all. The two stores/ranges I frequent the most have no signs, and are very friendly whether I'm open carrying or not. Those types of stores and ranges will always get my business.

* The ranges make you bring firearms in via locked/secured container only

All the gun shops around here have a no gun policy. One goes way over board which even though he is very local, I won't go there.

On the door he has a huge sign NO GUNS ALLOWED, CCW PEOPLE THIS MEANS YOU. YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED FOR ARMED TRESPASSING.

His Glocks also start at $585 for G19s and go up to $685 for any .45/10MM yeah ok

Nice right, then under that he advertises his CCW classes.

As much as I hate Gander Mtn, they have a sign that says we welcome CCW.

Let me ask you this.

If someone comes to your place of business and points a gun at you, what would you do?

I've had too many guns come in unloaded that were loaded, and I've had too many LET ME SHOW YOU THIS instances where I've had a loaded gun pointed at me.

If anyone else in the firearm industry feels this way, feel free to back me up - but there's a reason for stuff like that, it's called the LCD.

My dealer welcomes CCW.

They just ask that you leave it holstered so there are no accidents.

My gun store has a sign on the front door encouraging concealed carry on the property.

Highly hypocritical. We want you to purchase from US the tools needed to defend yourself but we don't want you to be able to defend yourself on MY property.

A no guns sign in a gun store reads just like this to me:
We will damn sure take your money but as far as you go- screw you. You don't need a gun in MY store, you don't know what you are doing with it.

Any gun store who bans it's patrons from carrying is sitting on the fence so hard the damn fence post has to planted firmly up their ass.

Never seen anything like that anywhere - I see a lot of "no loaded guns" signs, but the reason for that is obvious to anyone who has been around the gun world more than a few months.

It's amazing how much that is common and doesn't raise an eyebrow among real world shooters is a new and shocking discovery to the many newcomers posting here.

All gun stores around me allow carry. And this thing about how often gunstores are robbed? Really? Nobody tries to rob gunstores here, mostly because everyone is carrying.

It's amazing that having to take a loaded firearm out of the safety of it's holster and clearing it before entering a store is considered normal. Sorry, but no. My firearm is perfectly safe sitting in its holster and shall remain there. There is no need outside of a range or my home where I need to handle it other than a self defense situation. Asking me to do so is both stupid and dangerous, and gun stores requiring that do not deserve my business. They can get their money elsewhere, or not at all for all I care.

Anyone with common sense who needs to show or point out something on their carry, should clear the firearm ahead of time, or with permission and an escort taken to a safe area of the store (if there is one) to clear the firearm. Although, I don't agree 100% with the latter either.

cablas near me has a clearing station but only for guns being brought in for appraisal/scope mounting etc. You can carry loaded guns as long as they stay holstered.

I understand the thought that a "no guns" sign seems to give credibility to the anti-gun forces but out of curiosity what do we suppose bullet holes in walls, ceilings, and sometimes people in a gun store does to give them credibility?

If you don't want my carry firearm, you don't want my money. We have two shops locally where the majority of my business goes. Loaded guns are allowed, the handling of loaded guns on the sales floor is not.
If you are shopping for a holster, bring the gun in unloaded and try out holsters.

Here in Tucson all gun stores have signs saying it must stay in its holster or box nothing about unloading it. All employees of every gun store here are carrying.
