Advice--get ready to wait.
For specific advise, we'll need to know what model suppressor and what you plan on running it on.

I did not fill out the form, the gun shop did.
Will the sheriff ask me any questions or does he just sign it and that's all?
Thanks,
TGG

I believe he's still at the beginning of the process.
I have a trust so I've never gotten an LEO signature. You will have a six month wait once the paperwork is submitted.

No, he needs to sign off BEFORE the Form 4 is filed with ATF.

Done it twice, both times I walk in an ask to talk to SGT _____. (Using my local guy just as a reference.)
He comes down takes my papers, I went off in the next room and was printed by the same lady both times. She was very nice, she asked if I was gettting my CCW. I told her no I was there for a suppressor sign off. She responds with "oh cool" or something similar.
SGT comes back out said "here you go, be safe" that was it. In & out with in 10-15 minutes both times.
Man I was impressed with the electronic finger print machine. I haven't been printed since I was a kid and the it was the pads, I still have the finger roll perfect too.
Anyone ever printed know's how they like to hold your hand while they print you so they get the best print possible. I always hated this and would try to roll my own prints, they don't like that very much though.

Ahem...it's a "silencer". The inventor Hiram Percy Maxim called it a "silencer". Only the cool commandos would call it a suppressor.

hmm, I disagree
Just b/c it was called something many years ago does not mean the more correct (and commonly used) term suppressor is invalid.
Suppressor is the/a correct word for the item.
Words change with time.
I took my Isis 9 suppressor to the range last weekend. Very enjoyable as always.

You mean the inventor who named the thing didn't know what he was doing or saying?
Perhaps you and your friends know more about guns and silencer designs than Hiram Maxim and his son Hiram Percy Maxim?

Let's change "motorcycle" to something else too then. Motorcycle came from motorized bicycle. Obviously those things aren't motorized bicycle any more.

I suppose that all depends on the sheriff or your chief LEO.
My first couple of stamps, I lived somewhere where the LEO was our local twp police chief. Where I live now, we dont have local police, and the county sheriff is the one who does the signing. In PA, the sheriffs department are "officers of the court", and not local "law enforcement". I didnt have any troubles either way, and both were very amicable. Then again, where we live/lived, are rural areas, and not near a city. Did your dealer mention how they sheriff has been with others?

Its running 6 months these days. I just got mine back, six months to the day. It would have been a week sooner, but my dealer didnt print the forms on one sheet of paper, and they came back at the beginning of week 25.
Heres one of two.

OK call them scooters!
Karl Benz invented the first gasoline powered vehicle that he called it a " Motorwagen".
When is the last time you drove your motorwagen. Or should we call it motor wagon?
If people that build silencers want to call them suppressors because that suppress more that silence them they have that right.
Gun Guru, my advice is to be very patient and wait until you hear from the dealer that your paper work is in.
I have three "cans" and the last one took a very long time for the paper work to come back. I have passes so many federal back ground checks that you would think they could just look at the last one and check from there and rubber stamp mine and go on.
BTW, what kind of suppressor did you get?

forget that you even purchased it, i bought mine in sept 2011 and finally received it in may 2012...nfatracker.com is your friend...i probably checked it a million times while i was waiting...
depending on your examiner the wait may be longer or shorter than mine...it sucks having to pay for an item and not being able to use it until nearly a full year later...i'd love to get another nfa item but the wait times kinda killed the allure of the nfa world for me...

Sounds a lot better than a "car". What the heck is a "car"? It isn't even a real word. Dumbing down from motorwagen or motor wagon to a car was stupid. Same with calling a silencer a "suppressor" because you want to be hip. If P. Maxim were to want the darn thing to be called a suppressor, then that's what he would have called it.

Without searching, I just guessing, it OK because this is the Internet so guessing is as good a facts.
Back in the day before "cars" there was the rail road that use passenger cars, coal cars, and so on. later when you didn't needs rails for your self propelled rail less passenger car it just got shorten to
car.
