I'm not looking to pour $300 - $500 into it because I already spent $380 on the gun and can't justify much more.

Would a reflex sight work on this gun? I have seen some that are reasonably priced.

I would look for a 2-6 power scope. This with a set of quick
detachable scope rings would suit your needs.

For a .22lr, a Tasco, or Simmons would be a good choice.

Leupold & Weaver make those rings. They would also work with
the factory Ruger rail mount.

I think most people would recommend a Bushnell Outdoor Products Tasco World Class 3-9x40 or similar.

Another vote for Tasco. I've got one or two of theirs rattling around in my accessory box... great for rimfire rifles. I think I zeroed the one on my regular ole' one piece 10/22 sometime in the late 90's and it's still right on target.

No vote here for chi-comm crap. Sure, they are inexpensive but have some American Pride. The Redfield 2X7 is a fine scope for a .22 and will set you back $130 or so.

I'm usually a strong advocate of quality optics, but for a 10/22 which have three of it really isn't necessary to spend big dollars... I'm not sure what the skinny is on base model scopes these day, but I'd think ust the introductory model of a reputable name would be just fine... I have a cheap 3-9 simmons on mine, and since I don't typically shoot at flesh past 50 yards it's dead on accurate..

I wanted to use the included scope mount base too but as soon as you put it on you lose your use of the iron sights. I like the idea of being able to use the irons as an option.

The better base that will allow you to use the irons is 9 bucks.

Was $150 minus $50 but now you need to haggle on "Best Offer" on Ebay (they probably got the rebate).

At 12.5 inches it's a bit long to store in the stock case without detaching but that only takes an extra 60 seconds. It stores great in the three different compartments but I see that you have a nicer case anyway.

Any of those, i have a 2-7 on my 10/22 and its a great scope, very clear optics, and has bullet weight drop compensation for common 22lr bullet weights.

I forgot to mention that depending on the size scope you go with, keep in mind that the Takedown model will require some extra clearance from the scope when you twist the barrel to break it down.

The iron sights don't matter to me because my eyes aren't what they used to be, so a scope will work better, for my situation.

The case that this rifle comes in is nice, isn't it? I am VERY impressed with Ruger on this entire setup! They really hit the mark!

Hiya TGG........

I've always favored a standard 4x scope for an all-around general purpose rimfire scope. I have a Weaver Rimfire 4x on mine that has been a good scope. At this point, I wouldn't consider anything but a scope specifically produced for rimfire in any magnification 4x or above.....The exceptions would be adjustable objective or less than 4x. My sons have a 10/22 with a regular rifle fixed power 4x scope.....it's doable but not quite as clear optically at 25yds over a 4x that is parallax adjusted for rimfire distances. The further out the target, the less that distinction is noticeable, though.

Simmons 22 mag scopes are good basic scope for 10/22s. Make sure to get good scope rings.

Another nicer option is a Nikon ProStaff .22lr BDC scope. You get correct hold over points out to 150 yards, and its a nice optic for the money.

I watched a Youtube video review on this scope and have o say that it looks really nice A definite possibility.

If you're interested in Nikon scopes, also give their factory-refurbs a consideration. I've bought two at significant cost savings, and other than the packaging and a shortened warranty return period (one month, I think???), they have been functionally and cosmetically indistinguishable from factory-new.

Natchez, for one, is always selling the refurbs.

I just bought a Nikon Prostaff 4X. It seems like a well built
solid little scope, perfect for a .22lr. and has a lifetime
guarantee also.
If you search around on the web, you can find one for
a little over $100.00, or go with a Leupold rimfire for a little
over $200.00.

Just a reminder-- the OP (in post #3) stated that he wants to keep the budget under $60. Lots of good scopes out there. At the under $60 mark I think that you'll be hard pressed to beat the 22Mag. If the OP pushes the budget up then the options expand significantly.

I recently bought a Nikon BDC 3x9x40 Rimfire for my 10/22. It is the best scope that I have used on it and the BDC feature is pretty much right on. I picked it up for about $139 at a LGS who had mistakenly got it instead of a 223 BDC (so they said). Much better scope than the BSA, Centerpoint, or Simmons that I had on it before.
