Here are the 2 EDC knives; the original Spyderco Endura (note the molded in pocket clip) I have carried for about 30 years and is the "utility" blade for daily cutting chores.

The second is the CRKT M16-14ZSF which I got after reading about a guy in New Orleans that was grabbed in a choke hold from behind and disarmed by a cop. I got to thinking; what kind of a defense could I mount with the left hand if grabbed from the rear? I wanted a knife that would hang hinge down in the left pocket and this fit the bill, and absolutely scalpel sharp out of the box.

Well the M-16 utilizes dual "flipper tabs" which also function as a hilt when open, I discovered in practicing drawing the knife and using the index finger to flip the blade open with the upper tab, that if on the draw you press the lower tab into the corner of your pocket the blade opens during the draw. Ready for "operation castration" if ever grabbed from behind.

The Okie Corral

My Columbia River knives were very good to me, even not the top shelf pricewise, I rotate all of them, but the little Heiho sees the most of it, also I'm using it the most... It's incredibly useful knife, I'm almost surprised with it...

I got a small Rat to see if I can replace the Heiho in some sort of construction tasks, cutting ropes and wires here and there, scraping dry paint, cutting cardboards...
Poor thing, the blade just died... As much as it handles very well, the blade is not what I would use for anything... I pushed it for couple months and this is the result: almost dead Rat... One thing that I'm impressed: There is absolutely no blade play of any kind, but this and ergonomics are pretty much all... It opened slightly up few times in my pocket when moving rapidly up and down... bad thing... They clamed AUS-8 for the blade bit is soft as slice of cheese... The Heiho is 8Cr14Mov which is fancy name for Chinese steel but they did very good job heat treating it because it hold sharp edge fairly well...

As you can tell I got a "thing" about tanto blades, US and Japanese, I rotate my knifes and carry all of them, primarily for SD but they see some hard use once in a while. I'm happy with the "cheap" CRKTs, Cold Steel is another name that I like, they are built like a tanks...

I miss the Bedlam, so when I came across the Ganzo gimmick, I bought it right away... Besides the fact that I hate the way they copy successful designs almost 1:1 with the original, manufacturing of this knife is very good... There is little things to be desired here and there, but overall for $20 so including shipping, they worth the money... It's 440c isn't anything special but holds edge OK, the lock is kind of stiff to un-lock but overall is solid...

I don't think Chinese will be capable of coming up with well thought knife design... I think they will continue copying good models and there is no cure for it...
I'm familiar with some other Chinese products, but they are not copies by any means, so I don't have problem with it but I will probably not buy another copy of well known model, under Chinese brand name... I'm thinking to get another Bedlam and to get a different blade for this Ganzo, something with different geometry and better material...

it's a modiefied stanley wonder bar. they're like 5$ at any tool place and takes about 15 minutes to modify if you have a dremel and a bench grinder.

but hey if you want to risk a 100$+ knife and/or your hand go ahead.
I have one in my toolbox, and use it almost every day. Thing is, I have enough **** in my pockets at any given time, and a pry bar is never one of them. Hell, I barely even carry the ESSE or spare mags, but they were there at the right time.

My 0561 (and now 0560CBCF) is in my pocket way more than my XM-18. Lone_Wolfe will by by shortly to slap me for it, but to me the ZT is overall just as good.

The line starts to get gray here. I don't advocate buying Chinese knives that are branded Benchmade, Spyderco, Boker etc. but these aren't it. Those would be counterfeit items and against the law.

They are their own brand modeled off popular designs. If we go off your premise, perhaps folks shouldn't shoot Rock Island, ATI, or various other 1911 designs from the Phillipines?

That said, A LOT of stuff you wear or use originates from China and the quality doesn't suck. My Koh'ls Axist polo shirt comes from Pakistan, should I not wear that because it isn't a name brand Ralph Lauren shirt (which no doubt is made overseas anyway) at a higher price point.

Remind me who has the exclusive patents on the 1911 design right now.

So Colt has the exclusive patent rights to the 1911 Design but somehow we import many brands of 1911s into this country every year? How does the govt. not know? We could get the jack booted agents after them. What about Springfield, Sig USA, and Wilson, companies here in the USA, how do they make their guns and bring them to market without severe penalties for patent infringement?

I carry both at the same time usually. The 561 is waved though, I rarely use it.

depending on pocket size of the pants I happen to be wearing that day its usually a cold steel espada large or extra large front right and a large gerber covert fast or crkt hissatsu 2 in one of my back pockets. don't want to scare the sheeple with the espada plus 2 is 1, 1 is none.
