For me, it's just visual appeal. I keep my knives sharp enough that blade shape doesn't overly effect cutting ability, but I just think they look cool.

Elegant? Really? I'm not poking fun, I just always considered it esthetically 100% business, and not a single thing more...

I think the Osbornes are pretty universally gorgeous, but there's no accounting for taste

I've got several knives but the ones that see the most pocket time are my Kershaw: Spec Bump, Groove, Titanium Junkyard Dog SG2, RAM; ZT: 0560; Spyderco: Manix, PPT, Endura.

OH! Okay, I thought you were referring to my Emerson!
No, I agree with, I love the Osborne's... they have a joie de vivre in their styling, and are a joy to use. I have a Switchback that I'm especially fond of in addition to the one like yours.
Just the right size, too.

Ah, I can see how the wires got crossed there
I'm up to 3 Osborne designs and they're by far my favorites. The Contego with M4 blade is just fantastic.

Cold Steel Bird and Trout. hangs under my shirt out of the way till I need it and is lightweight. If I could neck carry a Swedish Mora, that would be the choice. It may be the sharpest knife I have ever held! Oh, and either is under $20!

I'm confused...with that much dislike, how did you end up acquiring the knife in the first place? Do you normally just throw a hundred bucks at a knife and hope you like it later?
Was it gifted to you?
I'm just trying to understand...to each his/her own.

Speaking for myself, yes, frequently. Sometimes they are great deals picked up on the secondary market and sometimes it's a knife that isn't stocked locally so it's purchased online. Sometimes it is an impulse buy on a brand new piece that isn't as wonderful as I thought it would.
In the grand scheme of things $100 on a knife is trivial. I'm a user and collector.

I don't know about him, but I've bought several Benchmades online without ever seeing one in person. There are two stores in town that carry them, and only a half dozen or so each. So there's a good chance if I want anything besides a Griptilian variant I'll have to roll the dice. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

That makes sense. I'm lucky I suppose; I have many good knife shops close by that sell all the major brands.

I bought it online without ever handling it. If a knife looks good, I'll buy it and if I don't like it, I'll sell it. (i rarely find a knife that i dont like) I have a mess of knives and don't tend to keep the ones that I don't like. The particular knife in question, however, I would have felt bad accepting money for.
In the knife world an $89 gamble is trivial as SE6 said. A real gamble is dropping $425 on a CRK, Umnumzaan sight unseen, without ever handling one. That gamble paid off though.
Hopefully sometime in the near future ill be gambling on a Hinderer XM-18 and a ZT0600.

My daily use knife was a Sabenza that was given to me. Those are well made knives.

That's the same reason I have to stay off the watch forums.

Something else I have in the rotation is the Buck-Strider SBMF that I picked up a whim. It's probably one of my better buys, because its overbuilt and is made with typical high quality steel that you can expect from Buck. Not a knock off or cheap clone, I recommend it highly, if for no other reason than the confidence it engenders... This is a damned tough folder.
Superior materials with superior ergonomics.
