Colt Question
Currently I have an M&P15. Usual Magpul furniture suspects and I put a DD Omega rail on it. I like it fine but have always just had an itch for a Colt.
I'm not a builder of ARs and don't really want a from scratch type project. We do want a second AR here in the household for family range days.
So...
I was thinking of the Colt SOCOM model, popping on an Aimpoint of some sort, a VTAC padded sling and there you go. My use of this is personal recreation and taking my sons out to go shooting.
I guess I like the SOCOM mainly because it kind of has everything on it already that I would likely want in terms of the KAC rail, controls, sling swivel, etc. It appears to come with the KAC rail covers and Colt magazine or two, but that's neither here nor there for me.
Anyway, I don't know anything about current Colt quality or the value proposition of this particular model versus getting another model Colt and adding the KAC rail etc. to update a base model to this model's out of box setup. I know this model is not inexpensive, but I'm all for buy once, cry once if the value and quality is there.
Thoughts or a better approach? Though I am pretty stuck on having a Colt unless there are solid reasons not to buy one.
Thanks,
HK

I picked up my LE6920 in December. FWIW, I couldn't be happier with the quality. Mine is still stock...haven't gotten around to adding bells and whistles yet.

I own a 6920 and it's all I'll ever need. If you have money to spare, I'd say go for it, but it sounds like you already have the setup you want.
I understand the itch. It's been a plague for a long, long time.
Good luck.

I picked up a Colt M4 6920 last month and I am so glad I finally got one after all these years. I dont miss the cash I spent on it one bit but if you gave me my money back and took my Colt... I would definitely miss the Colt.

You can't go wrong with Colt quality. They are the standard for a reason. I know a place that just got 10 in stock with Magpul furniture today, the owner is a buddy of mine and will do you right.

6920 as others have suggested. Also the 6720 is another option-pencil barrel. Buy what you want though bud thats the best way.

Definitely get it if you like the SOCOMs rails and such. It's a very nice, ready to go, package.
However, if you think it will shoot any different from your other AR, if you're imagining some sort of magic carpet ride, you will be disappointed. It will shoot like any other AR, and they're all pretty good.
Just don't want to see a case of disappointment/buyer's remorse. Keep your expectations realistic.
Also, others here have commented that the SOCOM is a good value for what it offers with the rails, stock, etc.

I own a 6920 and a 6720. I wouldn't trade for any other manufacture.

I picked up a 6920 SOCOM a couple weeks ago and love it. I'm left handed so it was nice to already have a safety lever on the right side.

No intention of thread jacking, but...
I too wanted a Colt and ordered a 6920 2 months ago from a Lawmans in NC for $975...any idea on the wait time for it?

Cancel the order and go somewhere else.

I liked it because it seemed all put together out of the box. I wanted a second AR for when I go with my sons. They hog the M&P. Hehe. I figured go big and get a Colt and it seems like a nice setup. Now I just have to do some shopping.
