What and Where to buy 9mm ammo?

I would like to get some good accurate 9mm ammo for shooting my 17L...what do you recommend and where can I buy it cheap. I plan on buying at least 500 rounds.

Thanks

Compare the total cost including shipping and tax. For orders under 1000 rounds it is hard to match you local Walmart, CTD, or Cabelas. Even factory reloads at $8 a box (5 box order) turned out to be $10 higher than new WWB or Federal from the Walmart 5 miles from the house including local tax. Cabelas has sales in local store from time to time on other good ammo like S&B, MFS brass, and CCI for under $10 per box. The on-line prices at Cabelas are usually higher than the in-store price. CTD also will have in-store stock at good prices many times. My policy is to keep an eye out for the ammo that I like and buy a few boxes when every I see it at a good price. Then I do not have to purchase when there are no sales going on.
If you shoot the more expensive calibers then reloading is something that you should consider for range ammo. I would still recommend that your carry ammo be something that is a standard well known brand and model.

No sales tax online. That negates shipping charge for even as few as 500 rounds. Besides, my Walmart's never have good selection anyway.

On-line vs Wally World is often a wash with less selection at Wally BUT immediate satisfaction if you find what you want or can use. Ship vs tax IS something to calculate. I've come out on the winning end with Wally recently on Federal 100 packs of 40 and 9 also UMC in both - I find both good practice ammo and they have been beating thye old go-to White box Winchester by a bit recently.

Has anyone shot the Herters brass case 9mm?? I only saw steel case from them in the past and notice that the boxes are marked 'by Sellier and Beloit' - maybe a buy out or repackaged S & B? I have a few hundred rounds but have not shot any yet?? It was priced much better than the rest. I remain cautious.

If you are looking for a specific round thy net will be more consistent. I use AMMOENGINE along with the other sights already mentioned - it's a big database that seems to keep up to date pretty well! http://www.ammoengine.com/

I'd rather go to cheaper than dirt and get TulAmmo for $186/1k, plus a little shipping.

Or go to Walmart and get WWB for, what is it now, like $22x/1k + tax?

I wouldn't be caught paying $269 for 1k rounds of FMJ 9mm.

Yes, I realize Lawman is very good practice ammo, and probably higher quality than WWB, and certainly higher quality than TulAmmo...but for pistol practice ammo...seems way too expensive to me.
