Question about the remmington 1911-R1

I just recently purchased the R1 and have not had the chance to shoot it yet. I did disassemble it to clean it and when I was putting the slide stop back into the slide stop mounting hole it seemed like I had to put a lot of pressure to lock it back in place. Is that normal?...Thanx!!

Are you sure the slide stop went through the barrel link properly?

If you 've put it back properly, and if you're talking about the final push, not the initial put in, it could be normal, as some metal surfaces are rough, and when rubbed against each other, it could be a little tough. That's best I can describe it.

True. The final push should be tight against the plunger tube.

Be sure to push it in straight and not to slide it against the frame or you'll end up with the dreaded "idiot" mark.

I'd also get one of the more detailed dis-assembly booklets for the 1911. I have one that's handy, Wilson Combat I think.
