CCP finally arrived...must decide on best 40 cal CC

I am getting set to purchase a 26-27 style carry weapon(not necessarily a Glock) I have a ton of 40 cal ammo, because I am currently practicing with a Glock 22 40 cal. I love the gun, but it's just not a practical conceal weapon, at least not for me so I thought it might be more economical to buy a 40 cal weapon for concealed carry. However, I'm not opposed to getting something different if it is more comfortable for summer use. Any suggestions from some of you more seasoned concealed carry people would be appreciated. Thanks!

Glock 23 if you're set on a 40 cal.

I am 5,9 and weigh 140lbs. I can easily conceal my Glock 19 IWB

The most popular CC Glocks may well be The Babies - LOL!
G26/9mm, G27/40, G33/357 Sig.
The grip size is the same for all three guns.

But the G27/G33 guns can run 9/40/357 with barrel mag changes.
The G26 doesn't have that flexibility.
And I like my girls flexible.

I have a G27 I carry occasionally, loaded with Federal 135grn HSTs. Nasty little round, it's got a bit of snap but seems to be one of the preferred rounds for SD ammo as it has excellent ballistic properties.

I had a 22 and 27. They made a great combo but, later this week I will pick up a 23 at the blue label dealer. I carry a 19 every day and it conceals well. The 27 maybe just a bit better but not much. IMO the 23 is a great way to go.

BTW: If I was going to go with a non-Glock platform in .40 it would be a Sig 229 hands down.

There are a few very thin CCW .40 pistols to look at (listed in no specific order):

S&W M&P Shield .40
Walther PPS .40
Sig P239 .40
Kahr PM40, CM40, P40, CW40 (the PM and CM are a handful in .40)

Getting into a double stack like a G27 or G23 makes the guns less comfortable for IWB carry, but many here will advocate otherwise. Personally I decided a 9mm was adequate with today's ammo and went with a Kahr PM9.

Thanks everyone! I am going to see if I can try the 23, 27 Glocks. Not sure exactly what I will end up with. Hopefully, I'll get something I am happy with the first time. If not, I'll try something else.

If you are an amateur shooter and you're honest with yourself, you will find that the 27 form factor has a much greater disruption on your followup shot accuracy than a 23. The latter gives you a full grip, is easier to draw, is easier to shoot and gives 45% more capacity. Those advantages are hard to turn down. Get yourself a Nick Mathews #1 to go with it and you'll be all set..

Yes try them both. I have a 22,23 and 27 and they are all great guns but they have been replaced for EDC by my new 30sf.

I have many 40's.... 2 of which are g23 and g27....

G23 gets carried as my primary..

G27 hasn't been out of the safe forever...

I can't find a gun better than the g23 for carry...

Just my opinion

G23 is a good choice. I have one and a G27. That said I settled on a SIG P239. For me it's just more comfortable. If your local range has rentals see if you can compare them. I would say the G23 is the better shooter followed by the 239 but the 239 def. carries better.

I have a G22 and had a G27. Me and the G27 just didn't get along. Now I have a Sig P239 in .40 and I love it. It shoots great, I love the trigger, and the weight takes a lot of the snap out of the .40 round. The thinness of the gun makes it a wonderful carry gun. The weight is not an issue at all as long as you have a proper belt and holster.

the 23 is a good choice but I must say that I carry my S&W M&P 40c alot also!!!!
the S&W is smaller than the 23 and a LIIITTLLE larger than the 27

Thanks for all the information! Presently, I am leaning toward either the Glock27 or the Sig239. The 27 feels really good in my concealment holster (King Tuk) I know some are suggesting that the 27 is a tough cookie in 40 cal, so we will see...If it turns out to be a bit much on the range, I'll try the 239, but I am going to try the 27 first because I love Glock firearms.

You already have a g22, get a g27 and you can share your g22 mags.

Yes, that is what I was thinking. I am sold on the 40 caliber round, so that will be the round I use. One thing I like about the 27 is that it fits my hand better than most because my hands are small. I will try it out as well as the 239 and I'd really like to look at the Kahrs too.

Update: I purchased the G-27 and added a +2 mag and I love this gun. Easy to conceal and easy to adapt to on the range. I also tried the G-23 and a Sig P239 and I liked the G-27. Thanks for all your good advice and suggestions!

Hi, you may want to go with the Sig Sauer p-229 in
.40 S&W if money is no option. I see it as one of the finest handguns on the market. If you want to stick with a Glock, go with a Glock 23. That's what I'm going with.

I carry a 23. I also have a 27 and like them both but the 23 works best for me. Try one on for size.
