I had both Kimbers and the PT1911. Both were the biggest piece of jam-o-matics that I ever owned. Maybe I got the only bad ones of the batches when I purchased. The Kimbers were the more accurate guns.
I since sold them for Sig and HK pistols and I'm very glad for having done so.

I traded my PT1911 for a Glock 27, I regret doing so. The gunshop won't take it back in trade, the 3 guys who fired the 27 to see if they liked it before buying it all said no thank you. I traded the Kimber on a S&W Model 27. My only regret there is the money I lost.
Live and learn.

I would say the same. I have 2 Kel Tecs and while Taurus may not be the greatest, they are hardly a Saturday night special.

The only Hi Point I ever shot was a .380, and it ran like a top and was actually pretty fun to shoot.

Exactly. I think Charter is in that group, too.
A grandmaw can buy a Hi Point for relatively cheap, stash it in her nightstand, and I promise you that it will kill someone just as dead as a Korth will is she needs it to in a defense situation.

Some brands listed are not what I would call cheep.
Whatever you buy you should be shooting the hell out of it to develop the confidence IN what you bought, be it high or low end. Lemons exist in both high and low end guns however it is more prevalent in low end.

I definitely agree with this. Put KT and Taurus mid-tier if you like, but to call them bottom of the heap is incorrect IMO.

I think I shot the same one. About as big as my 19, and a real ugly duck. It ran fine and the owner said he never had a problem with it. He said his dad bought it for him for $99 or something like that. It was definitely an eye sore in his collection of nice guns.

I bought a dog of a gun a while back. But I knew it was and I had a reason. It's an RG32 .22 cal revolver. Paid $40 for it. Bought it to shoot Super Colibri's thru it. Fun back yard/ garage plinker but would never rely on it for self defense.
If you want to purchase for self defense, go high quality. How much is your life worth?

My Phoenix arms Raven, never had a failure of any kind. I don't carry it,I have my S&W's for that, but at least it hasn't been a complete POS.

You forgot to add CZ to that list. The model 75 is overpriced and overrated.

What do you know. . . You have all sorts of gun with names that people never heard of like Korth, Yost, Volkmann, Nighthawk, and even one called “No Name”. Obviously all crappy low-end guns!

I think Kel-Tec is a decent brand.

I've seen plenty of used S&W's, Glocks, etc going for around $250.00. Maybe not the best cosmetically, but will function perfectly.

I don't like the SKS either, much preferring a piston AR, but if all I could afford was the SKS, it works.

Well, I would venture that KelTec stays in business because they give people what they want.
How long have we heard people over and over and over just begging Glock to make an easily concealable subcompact single-stack 9mm? Glock refuses to build one, but KelTec was more than happy to step in and provide for that market demand.

Show me where I can buy a functional but ugly Glock for $250, and I will buy all they have, then put in a backorder for more.

Taurus revolvers have a pretty good rep. Semi auto's and customer service is their problem. KelTec seems to have overcome all the "fluff and buff" problems. Diamondback too new for me. Sccy (now) looks great on paper but I know someone who couldn't get rid of one quick enough. Highpoints are just too big and heavy. When the wife wanted "small and light" a KelTec P11 looked like the perfect pistol. Instead she got a G26 and has been a happy EDC with her "baby". Cheap doesn't = bad. I carried a Sigma 9VE for four years. 2500 perfect round count and a fine carry weapon. I moved to a G30 because I wanted a 45. I'm gettin' older and must need to make up for other equiptment lacking in perfect performance.

My PF-9 is a great little gun. I've shot the crap out of it. And it keeps coming back for more. Yeah it's fir and finish are a tad suspect. But the action isn't. At well over 8k rounds it's still banging out rounds.
As for the High Points. I know many,,, and I mean a lot of experienced shooters that are buying them for HD, car and boat guns. They clean up the triggers a tad. Shoot the snot out of them. Then put them in the nightstand, car or boat and forget about them. With a lifetime warranty and able to stand up to the strongest of rounds retail or reloaded. I may buy a 9 and .45 acp. In a HD shoot and kill. These folks don't want the higher dollar good guns taken by the police during the investigation. Let them have the HP. And every one I've shot in the last few years has shot POA and functioned 100%.
