Zeroing in my 30-06

I am going to be zeroing my 30-06 some time next week. The range I am going to is not that large. If I was to zero at 50 yards how low should the bullet impact be. Thanks in advance.

Zero at 25 yds 1" high. Remember ,i f you are using a scope with 1/4 MOA adjustments it will take four times the number if clicks at 25 yards to have the same effect in inches as at 100 yds.

For the .30/06 to be used for "practical application" meaning hunting or personal defense, the normal zero is 200 yds. That way, anything from 0 out to 300 yds will be an effective hit when the sights are placed on the intended impact zone.

How is that for politically correct terminology?

Yes, But I don't have 200 yards to zero it in. Thats why I need to know where to place bullet impact at 50 yards or less.

For sighting in on a 50yd range with a 200yd zero as the final goal, I'd begin by sighting in 1" high and then confirm later to fine tune.

At 50 yds for 150-165 grain bullets around 3/4" high should get you close to a 200 yd zero. For 180 grain bullets sight in about 1" high for a 200 yd zero.

This - it should get you sighted in pretty close with an off-the-shelf .30-06 carthridge. Before I take a hunting shot at any game though, I'd find a way to double-check my zero out to your typical range for your chosen application. Hope this helps!

I would still verify at 200 at some point if you ever plan on shooting at that distance. What happens on paper and what happens when you actually shoot tend to differ. At 200 windage adjustments can be fine tuned and a 1/4-1/2 MOA mistake at 50 that is hard to catch is easily fixed.
