Who tops off?

I don't. Just don't like how stiff a full magazine feels. Part of me thinks the second cartridge may fail to feed if I top off. Probably an unreasonable fear, but the one extra round is unlikely to ever make a difference (I hope)

I take a magazine for the number of rounds it specifies. Anything else seems silly. A 15 round magazine should be just that anything else is faulty engineering and false advertising. Loading less than capacity fearing failure is either buying into a myth OR accepting a second rate build. I expect firearms to perform to their spec sheet 100% - period.

Always top off. Sure it may not be a big deal but what if it does become a big deal and you need that last round?

The magazines are made to be topped off. Just look at the stats on any semi-auto made today and you'll see something like 15+1. 8+1. 6+1 etc.

I generally insert loaded mag, rack slide and call it a day. Lately I've been carrying a 17 mag as a reload to my 19 mag. If were talking about carrying here if 32 rounds doesnt do the job I guess I'm screwed.

Pop one in the mag, rack the slide. Drop the mag & load it to the top. Good to go! Full mag+1 in the HK, full mag support side.

I keep my ARs full mag, nothing in the pipe, safety off.

I always top my semi-autos off. I have never had a problem for about 12 years now.

All magazines are kept full with no problems for the same length of time.

Mags run from 10 rounds to 15 rounds.

Nope. Insert full mag and rack one in. I feel perfectly comfortable with my 5-shot snubby so the 10 in my Glock are already a bonus.

Pistols are always magazine loaded to capacity and one in the chamber.

Carbine is full mag, empty chamber, hammer back, safety on.

Shotgun is full mag, empty chamber, hammer down, safety on.

I don't see how it's that weird. Some people lock their doors twice at night. We all have different superstitions or routines that make us feel comfortable.

I very seldom use a semi-auto, but I don't top them off.

Of course I only shoot them at the range. It would never occur to me to not do it with a carry gun.

I always check my doors at night right before I go to bed. Never really felt the need to top off my CCW.

Just curious.

Why safeties on with empty chambers?

Why hammer back on the carbine?

Not trying to be insulting, just genuinely intrigued.

I NEVER, 'top-off' any carry magazine. At the range? Yes, but nowhere else. I've been shooting for more than half a century. I'm able to recall, at least, 4 times when I had top round jams. The risk, although low, just isn't worth it to me; besides, I shoot better than that anyway.

Every gun I carry has a full magazine plus one in the chamber.

I store my AR the same way. I want the safety to be on when I chamber a round and the way the safety works on an AR, the hammer has to be back for the safety to be engaged.

On the carbine (AR-15 SBR) you can only engage the safety with the hammer back. Pump shotgun is kept hammer down (to unlock the carrier) and safety on. In both cases, TWO actions are required to make the weapon ready (rack action, release safety). In the event I have to grab either one, I can immediately load a round into the chamber, and keep the safety ON until just before I am forced to fire. It's one extra step to prevent an ND, or a shot on at non-hostile, and to make sure I am aware of my actions, not doing them purely by reflex. It's also insurance against being disarmed, or someone unauthorized reaching the weapon before me, since they will have to load and/or disengage the safety first - not much insurance, but I will take what I can get.
