So, my father in law just so happens to have come into possession of a cannon. Like, shiver me timbers give me yer booty or I'll blast yer skiff to smithereens cannon.
The fella he bought it from had two, but had already sold the cannon with base. So my FIL has just the barrel. I haven't been able to dig up much as of yet. So I figured I'd throw it out here to the GT braintrust.
It's roughly 40 inches overall. Barrel itself measures 32 inches from muzzle to flash hole. Weighs in at just over 100 lbs I'd guess. It's heavy. The bore is 2 inch.
The only markings present are at the muzzle end of the barrel.
DS at 12 o'clock
19 at 9 o'clock
94 at 3 o'clock
KT or RT or similar at 6 o'clock
Anybody know what we have here?
I assume it's a newer reproduction. As it doesn't have any other markings than what I've already stated.
Any idea what she's worth?
Any idea where to find GOOD plans for a base.
Any idea where to find GOOD load data for it?

Mine is about the same size but started life as a 40mm AA gun. Tons of fun. I would closely inspect what looks like a crack about 1/3 of the way up from the breach. It looks like a cast iron gun and could have been over stressed. The pitting in the bore at the muzzle makes me think it could have some age to it.

Hard to tell without a scale but looks to be a small (say 2 or 3 pounder).
Base, look at any shipboard cannon from the Revolutionary period, those will work.

Closest thing I've found is this 1/2 scale 6 pounder from Dixie GunWorks. The dimensions are about right. And if it is indeed a Dixie cannon, it'll need a new steel liner for the bore.
The only thing that doesn't match up well is the size of the trunnions. Which are visibly wider on our unidentified cannon.

Ya, you'll want to make sure that "what looks like a crack" isn't one. Red Jacket had a cannon on their show.... last year. They took it somewhere and had it X-rayed or Magnafluxed (or something like that) before they shot it.
There is another spot further toward the muzzle that looks the same, and they may both simply be casting flaws, and not cracks. But you should find out which it is before firing it.

Black powder artillery is fun but also a good way to get killed.

I like. For only $50 go ahead and test fire it with a long fuse. You will either have the making of a small canon or a one time pipe bomb.
