From KLBJ's web site:
"APD Chief Acevedo talks about the officer shot and killed this morning
Newsroom
4/6/2012
An Austin police officer has been shot and killed in the line of duty this morning. Officials say he was fatally shot near Interstate 35 and Parmer Lane in North Austin. The area around the Walmart is blocked off by a large number of officers and crime scene tape. The officer responded to a 9-1-1 call from inside the Walmart. Employee say a drunk man was causing problems in the store and when the officer arrived...the suspected began to fight the officer. The suspect then pulled a gun and shot the officer in the neck. The unidentifed officer leaves behine two young daughters.
Police Chief Art Acevedo at 6am"

Suspect was tackled by two Wal-Mart employees. The officer was able to get out an officer down transmission and when the cavalry got there the suspect was taken into custody.
I have heard through the grapevine that there were lots of Travis County SO and APD cars on scene.
The officer was reported to have two children, a 10 year old, and 6 year old, and had worked for San Angelo PD before moving to Austin.

My prayers go out for officer's Pardon family and the APD as a whole. We have a good police force in Austin and this event is a tragedy. I hope justice is served quickly and harshly.

Rest in peace, and prayers for all left behind, and for APD.

A premature end to a life of service and honor.
