Sleeper Handguns
Was thinking about handguns that some may not know about and other great guns that never caught on or had low sales. They can be copies of other well known designs or imported guns from less known manufactures. Here are two I thought of. What are some more.
BUL Cherokee
Sarslimaz Kama

S&W 4040PD. Short lived Gen3 .40 S&W cousin to the 3913 that had a Scandium frame to save weight.
I have one, and it's a great little shooter. It just never caught on, and S&W discontinued it after only a few years.
I never heard of any problems with it, other than some criticism of the magazine well. You had to punch the mag in pretty firmly or the first round could fail to feed.

Bersa/Firestorms... Walther clones, for the most part.

FNXs and FNPs. Great guns made by one of the largest firearms companies around FNH, yet gets little attention it seems.

Walther P99 - great pistol, just got priced out of the market , $700 . at least walther did not make the same mistake with the PPQ
Caracal F- designed by the legendary designer Wilhelm Bubits of glock and steyr fame and really got a bad rap because of importer issues and it being built in the UAE

Stoeger Couger 9mm's were going for $389 a couple of years ago. All the people I talked to who bought one was highly impressed with the bang for the buck.

Armalite AR-24. I have one that I picked up about three years ago. I have been very happy with it, but I don't see much talk about them and I never met anyone else who owned one.

Although I've never owned one.
I've heard lots of good things about various Taurus guns.
They sometimes buy old designs from Beretta.

Detonics. Probably too well known a couple decades ago to make the list, but I will offer it anyway.

I've heard the Taurus revolvers are excellent but have heard mixed reviews of their autos.

FNP9m. It's an awesome all around gun. 15 rounds of fun, concealable, great ergos, great trigger, and superb reliability.

Ruger P95, affordable, 9mm tackdriver only sold mine because I went to all DOA or striker with pistols. It's big - if you run out of ammo, use it as a hammer - you won't damage the gun!

+1 on the Bersas. I think they are priced to low. Everyone assumes that they are crap. For a DA/SA they are hard to beat for accuracy and reliability...especially for the price point.

The biggest sleeper of them all to me would be the 3rd Gen S&W 457 45acp single stack. I wish they still made them.

Arcus 94. I think I paid around $230 for it new. Everyone that shoots it comments on it's excellent accuracy.
It's been dehorned and refinished in this pic.

Interesting stuff, like a side-by-side HD 12 gauge with rails. . .

I have to say +1 on FNH, they have some amazing looking pistols, not to mention the Five-seven and SCARs...

Guns gone too soon
I would agree with the orginal Detonics, dont know about the newer pistols.
Next up would be STAR pistols. I always did like the PDs, BKMs. Way ahead of the times. Firestar plus series in 9mm were pretty good also. Now if I could find that one of a kind Firestar plus in 45?

The Steyr GB 9mm. The first ones came into the US in 1981 and had an 18 round magazine.

The Browning BDM 9mm is one of the finest pistols I've ever shot. It's the only handgun I've ever handled that felt as good as a 1911 or Hi-Power. What a shame that these never caught on with the public.
