Florida Highway Patrol G37 sighted for sale?

I was in a LGS today and saw a G37 Florida Highway Patrol pistol for sale.

It had the special FHP and trooper badge number engraved on it. Which glock did for them.

Do the troopers have the ability to buy the gun? Did he retire? The LGS employee had little info about how it came to be in the used Glocks, I will stop back by later and see if the manager can shed some light.

Yeah, that's going to be a retirement pistol; the troopers are offered the opportunity to purchase their pistols when they retire, at a pretty good price....

I think you are confusing me with the OP.....

I'm not the one who saw the pistol for sale.

The price was $550 and it came with box, 4 mags and a desantis holster. It had night sights but they seemed a bit dim, but couldn't really tell.

That might be a good deal to some but 45 Gap pistols almost never sell down here, and deals like $400 for a like new in box with nightsights G38 and G37 3rd gens can be had.

this was of course a 4th gen. and this place did have a large supply of 45 Gap practice ammo.

At $550 they've probably got at least a $200 markup on it.

I'm thinking FHP is getting rid of the GAP pistols, it's been hard for them to get ammo, I'll ask a trooper that goes to my LGS.

No they aren't going to get rid of them currently, however you are correct as ammo, particually training ammo can be hard to come by.

this LGS had a lot of 45 gap remington green box 45 gap and some Speer gold dots HP ammo. first large amount i have seen in any gun store.

If you retire with at least 25 years of service you are given your 45 Gap at no cost to you. The FHP emblem and ID number were only put on the slide the year that the first Clocks were issued. After that year no other 37 Glocks are so marked. We all had to go through three days of training (pure hell) to transition to the Glock pistol. Other than my Colt Python I consider the Glock 37 the best weapon I have been issued.

For what it's worth, it's hard for most agencies to get practice ammo regardless of caliber. It took us almost a year to get an order of .40 and .223 ammo so it's not only GAP ammo.

I don't know about the agencies having trouble getting GAP ammo. I saw an ad in the Glocktalk classifieds recently for 5000 rounds of GAP brass for sale that was supposed to be from an LE range. I missed out on the deal, but the guy sent me an email and said that there would be more in the near future.

NY Troopers are still carrying the G37.

A buddy of mine who just retired from NYSP says that NY destroys used pistols rather than putting them back into circulation when retirement time comes.

That's just wrong.
