I have a new Gen 4 G26 but would love to buy an example of the "perfect" 26. The one that transcends reliability. What year and what Gen? Are there any advantages of getting one with Austrian marks, minus Smyrna? And advice? Is it like Italian Berettas being preferred? Thanks in advance.

Every G26 ever sold in the USA was made in Austria. What you presently have is as good as it gets.
The G26 was introduced to the world in late 1995 as a Gen3 with smooth finger grips. Checkering was added to the finger grips in 1998. Only change since then was the introduction of the Gen4 version.
