Look at the guide in Bac's signature line, it covers a lot of what you asking!

"The best" in terms of what?

Target accuracy? Combat reliability? Esthetic finish?

Not enough info!

Overall performance, looks, feel, etc. I know customs aren't cheap but I just want to know what the public likes in a custom handgun.

Of the three you named - it's Wilson for me. However, it is my opinion that with all the price increases, they aren't competitive as a value purchase anymore. Nighthawk builds some nice pistols, but for nearly the same price as a Wilson I wouldn't want to feel like I was rolling the dice as to what my experience was going to be. Ed Brown just doesn't do it for me. Not that he doesn't build a great 1911 - because I think he does.

If I were spending my money today, it would be Guncrafter or SACS.

I can't comment on who builds the "best." I have heard nothing but great things about Wilson and Ed Brown - just don't ask him for an interview.

But, I can tell you why I went with the Ed Brown. The Kobra Carry caught my eye. Thought it looked fantastic.

I was able to hold/fondle one and compare it to other 1911s in the shop.

This was before their two price increases - I felt like I was getting a great value for my buck in that price range.

I also liked that their 3 main pistols (Kobra, Special Forces, Executive) are all built the same. Really the only differences are the front strap checkering and side serrations.

I liked that I didn't have to pay extra to upgrade to bullet proof parts and things like that.

Of the 3 i'd go with Wilson. You also have the most options with Wilson. I like Baers and would include them in your list. Ed Brown builds a great gun too!! Don't forget though, Ed Brown is rude...

I have not owned a Nighthawk, not for any reason just have not purchased one yet. Can not speak to them. Same with Gun Crafters.

I have owned 1 Baer (TRS Comanche), 1 Brown (Kobra Carry) and a couple of Wilsons (CQB Elite and CQB Compact) and have a Wilson Classic on order.

I would say Wilson, Brown and then Baer IMO. I would say Brown builds the best looking 1911s around. I am not sure there is a huge amount of difference in reality between the three.

I also agree the pricing is getting to the point where I am not ready to spend that much anymore for a single gun. There are so many great 1911s on the market now from $750-$1400 now that I am not sure why I would. This Wilson Classic might be my last 1911 from these makers :(

I have all 3, and i will never buy another Nighthawk... way overpriced for what you get.

no shock Wilson and Brown are great but i do like my Ed Brown more than my wilson's. One i don't own yet but i really want is a Les Baer... that and a Guncrafter

The GunCrafter I can understand, but I did not think you cared for Baers.
You Fusion still treating ya right? It has to be one of the best lookers I've seen!

Out of those three, I'd pick Wilson.

However, take a hard look at Springfield Custom and Guncrafter.

Bac' KNOWS his crap, and HE has done the research that many less

None of the 3 are "custom". Of the 3, I'd go with Brown.

Other than that, the SACS is more "custom" than the others.

Another option is SVI. I really want one of those.
