About a month ago, I installed Ameriglo tritium front sight on my G19 Gen 3. Used included installation tool, and applied blue LocTite to the threads of the nut...left it untouched for 24+ hours to cure, per instructions.
At the range today today (with about 200 total rounds through the gun), I noticed that I couldn't see the white ring on the front sight, and the sight profile was very WIDE...
Looking closely, I saw the sight was was loose
. Cleared the gun, field stripped, and saw that the nut had come loose, and with very little fiddling, sight fell off (as well as the nut).
I have reinstalled it, using more
blue LocTite, and a little more torque on the nut (pliers on the Ameriglo installation tool).
- is this a common occurrence?
- did I do anything wrong with the installation?
- does the barrel hit the nut when the gun fires and/or locks open? could that loosen it?
- if the nut actually came off, could it wind up in the breech or other internals of the gun? (is there enough clearance for that?)
I was annoyed, but as I think about it, I'm concerned that it might have been dangerous.
