Marlin 336 30-30 .35 Cal.
Son picked up this rifle over the weekend at a steal, "friends estate sale". Academy gives you the deer in the headlights look, when you ask them for ammo for it. These rifles have a lot of good reviews his is a 79 model, but man the ammo costs more than the rifle, unless someone here knows were to buy it cheaper than at Gander Mountain @ 34.00 for 20 rounds.

Well is it a .30-30, or a .35? And why is it in the rimfire forum? Pick up a set of dies and some bullets.

It's a hybrid round, .30/30 case, .35 caliber bullet.
I'm sure this thread will be moved soon.

As a wildcat, do you know the design name? like .357 Herrett or the 35-30/30 which is one of the oldest wildcats, having originated around the turn of the century in .35 cal
The Model 336 is a great little lever.
Picture might help

Wonder why some one would wildcat that round when you could just buy a lever action in .35 Remington.

My mistake, I saw a Marlin in .35-30/30 for sale this weekend on-line and your subject line made me think that was what you had.

But now it sounds like a standard .35 Remington version, congrats it is a fine old cartridge that has killed untold numbers of deer.

A Marlin levergun in .35rem is a fine deer cartridge and is actually big and powerful for all deer-family (elk, moose, etc.) animals at decent ranges (0 to 150yds or so).
Try here for ammo: Good people and good prices.

This was what I was looking for. I checked out the ammo at that site, but it's $35.00 per bx. by the time it gets here. Gander Mt. is $35.00 a box it's 2 miles away, guess I am off to Gander, "BIG" thanks!

That price seems kind of high for .35 Rem ammo. But I haven't bought any for a long, long time. I pretty much manufacture my own for almost every caliber I own. Especially the harder to find stuff. Hopefully you have a buddy that reloads. Buy a set of dies, some bullets, powder and primers, and have a good time sitting at his bench. Load up a couple hundred rounds and shoot that lever gun.

Try walmart. At least in Michigan .35 Rem used to be semi common and I always saw the green box remington when I went shopping at various stores.
And Gander Mountain is probably the most expensive local place to buy ammo.
