I'm In The Mood For a Kick Ass Shotgun
I am in the mood for a kick ass shotgun. I have decided to follow the "2 is 1, 1 is none" program.
I have 3-.22LRs, 2 semi-auto handguns, and 1 pump 12G.
I may have a lead on a 870. I like these and the 590A1.

18" bbl 590a1 would be my choice. I had one and it's a super sturdy pump shotgun.

Cant go wrong with an 870 or a 590a1. I really like the safety on the Mossbergs.

I totally agree. Both great shotguns that you would be happy with.

I have an 870 and just bought a Mossy 500 and the safety is definitely better on the 500.

Mossy 500 + slugs = OMG
I only have one 12 gauge.
Pump 500 Mossy with a pistol grip.
Add Federal Tactical slugs and you've got a party!

I don't know what your current gun is. But...to match that HK, I'd say Benelli M4. Benelli, it';s the HK of Shotguns. Or, on the down low, if you already have a 500/870, a Maverick would not be a bad choice.

Agreed. Also, IMO, the action release button is in a way better location on the Mossberg as well.

Get a Remington 870 or Mossberg pump. You can feed it anything there is without having to worry about jams or cycling issues that are more prone on the semi-auto models. Get an extended mag tube (my 870 is 7+1) and a nice strap (preferably one that holds shells), and you are good to go!

The location of the safety is the Mossberg's only advantage over an 870. Unfortunately, it also seems to be the part that breaks the most.

A 930SPX is on my short list. The 870 I have is badass, but not bad enough.

Oh, I have an old police Winchester 1300 Defender, complete with sunbleached wood on one side, and rack marks. It looks mint inside and the action is SMOOTH and FAST.
It's pretty cool.

Regarding the slide release lever location on 870. If You are actually train with your shotgun it won't be a problem - it's like muscle memory. Your finger will go there instantly. Safety location is in good place on 870 IMO, but some people are unhappy with it. Probably the worst thing You can do is to constantly switch between the platform as it may create some confusion when You will need it the most. Otherwise between 500 and 870 You really can't go wrong. Winchester and Ithaca are also worth to look at.

Agreed. I have the same gun, it's built like a tank. Longish length of pull though.

And the elevator is a better design too.
And it's lighter.
And the aluminum receiver won't rust.
Arguably, the captive mag tube cap is a better design too, since you can't lose it, though it prevents you from installing an extension.
The M500 is a fighting shotgun that can hunt and bust clays, the 870 is a duck gun that can fight.

The mossberg 500 persuader/cruiser is a good HD gun and inexpensive. Pistol grip, heat shield, 7-8 round capacity.

I'd be on the lookout for a Winchester 1300 Defender.
