Right now I shoot 155 gr XTP's at about 1330 fps which is 610 ft/lbs of energy, but they do shoot low, as seems typical with a lot of people when they run lighter bullets at faster speeds. I use a stock barrel and stock spring. I plan on building up some 180 gr XTP's that will be doing about 1250 fps which is 625 ft/lbs of energy. I am hoping these will shoot POA.
My question is, do I need to upgrade the spring? I don't believe my 155's batter the gun, so would the 180's do that at all? I don't want to mess with the stock operation at all if it isn't needed. I was thinking if anything, I would try a 19 lb. spring.
Anybody have any experience with the speeds in a stock configuration?
For me, the question of whether a heavier spring is needed, or not, is primarily, by the fact of how far the ejected brass is thrown. 5, 6, or 8, feet away, and I'd stay stock. 20 feet away, and I'm going to go heavy enough to get it to land within 6 feet, as long as it runs reliably.
