I enjoy shooting and love shooting handguns in particular. I only own one handgun right now and it's a SA XD40 service model (chambered in .40s&w of course), and I have a .357 sig conversion barrel. I want to get a Glock 26 and maybe a Glock 21 too! I like 9x19 and .45acp! Would you recommend just getting a Glock 27 and maybe a full size .40cal. Or is varitey really the spice of life? Even after this ammo scare I could find 40s&w and .357 sig too. No 9 and 45 anywhere! What's your philosphy on handgun calibers. Variety or K.I.S.S.?

KISS for me. I figure its easier to stock only a few calibers of ammo. .40 S&W and .38 Spl, for now. I'd like to add 9mm and .357 to round it out.

i only have 9mm for hand gun (.22lr if needed), .223/.22lr for rifle, and 12g. although a .308 AR will be joining my ranks this year, i have abandoned .380, .38spl, .357, .45, .40, and 7.62x39 over the years. i consider myself a fairly accurate shooter and am comfortable with any of those calibers but have simplified greatly over the years.

I was thinking of a Glock 26 because ammo is cheaper (typically) and I figured recoil would be more mild, but in a 27 you lose one round and gain some energy in ft. lbs. However, recoil is a little more harsh, but hardly unmanagable. If I got a Glock 21, I could get a .40 Super barrel, and rival ballistics of 10mm (for hunting pigs and deer), and still use .45acp for two legged threats and practice.

All you need are two things... Time & money and you can collect and shoot till your hearts content.

Your collection should be as wide as our interest in this sport.

I reload so for me it is a matter of owning a particular caliber gun in order to test with it. Afterward it becomes part of my regular rotation at the range.

After quite a few years one could have collected a nice group of firearms.

I'm rather new to this but have a 9mm, 40 and a 45 and I like them all. I'm also getting into reloading as I like the hobby aspect of it. Couple that with the fact that ammo is scarce and it just makes sense.

I've got a bunch handguns, but no .40. I'm not opposed to that caliber, but me and the wife standardized on 9mm, and I know she can shoot any of those well. Also a bunch of .38/.357. But for fun I have a .45acp, and for hunting I have a .44mag and a 7-30waters. And for micro, we have a couple .380's. And of course a few .22's. But the majority of our handguns are 9mm

That's just to establish a basic collection. Next year I was thinking about something different, maybe a double stack .40 like a Gock 23. But then NY Cuomo came along with 7 round mag restrictions for new guns. So, what's the point. Next gun will be either a .45acp, or a .357mag.

Same here - two .45s, a .44, a .357, a .22LR, and a 9mm - no .40s yet.

Also, don't sell any guns unless you really, really have to. Most everyone I know has regretted selling guns. That $100 (or more) you get will be gone very quickly, and you will be missing a gun.

This. I like guns too much to limit myself to just a couple calibers. Having a bunch of different caliber guns also means it's easier to find stuff to shoot if there is an ammo shortage. If it goes "bang", I like it!

I own or have owned just about every caliber. So me I shoot more than others, but they are all fun. SO let your wallet be your guide; Glock, 1911, Sig, XD, Ruger, pistol, revolver, it's all good.

I have a number of 9mm and .45 handguns and just one .40 which happens to be a G27. I'm seriously thinking of getting a .40 to 9mm conversion barrel for the G27 or just selling it and getting a G26. Twice I've caught myself loading the G27 mags with 9mm. Yeah I admit it! They are pretty close to the same size and now I'm conscious about keeping the 9mm away from the .40.

I'm down to two calibers in handguns, 9mm and .45ACP.

Easier to find, especially if the SHTF... these have a chance of being available when many other calibers might be long gone and plum out of stock.

Glock 19, Sig P226 Navy and Dan Wesson CCO 1911. These three are ALL keepers big time!

Oh I forgot, a NAA Mini Mag .22Mag. But that ammo doesn't count because it's hardly ever shot!

I accumulated ammo in the calibers I shoot right after Zero took office for the first time and keep it at a certain level replacing it as I go, rotating old stock out for new, etc.

If I cannot replace it immediately or within a reasonable time frame, I hold-off or greatly reduce the amount of shooting I do until 'til I can.

for me, its KISS+. most pistol is consolidated to .40, but I have a few pistols in .22, .25, 9mm and 45 ACP. most rifle is 7.62x39, with a few in .22 5.45, .223 and 7.62x54R. All shotgun at 12g.

I own just about every caliber in several platforms. I would go to a big gun store and handle all of the guns. Buy the one that gets your nipples hard. I like the Glock platform for 40/357sig over the XD because it is lighter to carry and more accurate. Be careful if buying a Glock 10mm or 45 ACP to be sure the grip fits your hands. Also, everyone should own at least one good 1911 in their lifetime.

With g20 and g21 with a few extra barrels you are covered from the 460 Rowland, 45 super, 45 acp, 10mm, 357 sig, 40 call, 40 super. This takes you from moose to bad guys. From hunting, plinking, IDPA competition.

For me these two guns cover the serious end of pistol shooting. I have 9mm sub compact and s&w 2" 5 shot for light dress summer carry.

I have had my g20 gen 2 since 1997. I have put several dozen pigs and cull does in the freeze.

I use p226 9mm for plinking at the ranch and a 5.7x28 FN for varmint control
