G17 conversion help

I'm contemplating getting myself a G17 to build it into a competition ready G17. I thought it would be all external modifications (mag well, slide pull, accessory rail, etc..). Along with changing the trigger, I thought that'd be all I had to worry about. I know there is a lot more to it, I just dont know what. Can anyone tell me exactly what needs to be done to convert a STOCK glock 17 gen4 into a competition style G17. Or if I'd be better off buying one already built is the way to go. I don't mind it being a project.

build as you go, add to it as you see needed. Start with the trigger and/or sights

I would like to build as I go, I just don't know what needs to be done as far as the inner workings such as extractor, springs and such.
