I <heart> the big brown truck

My new (to me) G30 can now show me what it (she? he?) can do.

Caliber Corner

Ran 100 rounds of WWB 230gr over the weekend; it's now time to test some SD loads.

"The Brown Truck of Happiness." Had about 1000 rounds come in this week. 500 more on the way.

Only one box of each?

If so how do you intend to function check its reliability with a round? See which one you/it prefer and then order more?

I get excited when this truck arrives with my ammo.
Caliber Corner

I'm getting too old to handle this truck, but I willing to try.

Yep. One of each for right now. After going through both, I'll order a few hundred rounds of the 'winner'. I'm in no rush so I'm taking my time.

It won't make it into my carry rotation until at least 100 problem-free rounds of the good stuff.

Did the same thing recently with my FNP-45T. Ordered two boxes each of Federal HST+P and Ranger T-series +P. Both functioned perfectly in the pistol. But, I seemed more accurate with the Ranger Talons. And, a bonus... I recently found a good deal online and ordered 500 of the Ranger Talons. Will arrive via the Brown Truck of Happiness on Thursday.

Weird outing today.

I have two 10-round magazines.

Loaded one with Rangers - no problem. Next mag of Rangers - the 9th round failed to feed. Tap. Rack. Bang. Next mag of Rangers - the 9th round failed to feed. Tap. Rack. Bang. Next mag of Rangers - the 9th round failed to feed. Tap. Rack. Bang.

So the 9th round failed to feed on both mags at least once.

Caliber Corner

40 rounds of Gold Dots and not a single issue.

Guess I'll be stocking up on the Speers (groups were a little tighter with them anyway)

I would buy and shoot another couple boxes (100 rnds) of the Gold Dot before stocking up and trusting them.

BTW: This is Ranger T in my 30SF. It failed miserably as well, usually the 7th round out of the magazine (multiple mags multiple days)

Caliber Corner

I tried HST 230+P (P45HST1) after this. It failed on the 97th round.

Perfect example of why you should test your defensive ammo.

Weird that it's the 9th round every time. Makes me wonder about the magazine (springs).

That said... good support for the suggestions to test ammo before carrying (and before buying a crapload of it).

I shall do just that.

Kind of a weird experience since I've never experienced a failure with any Glock I've owned or shot ('cept one time with a 33-round mag).

I probably won't carry the G30 too much (I prefer the thinner G26 & G32) and I definitely won't carry it if it does this with any regularity!

Mags were my first thought too, but if that was the case, wouldn't they fail with the Speers as well?

Yep. Especially when it's $.60/round!

IMO if it fails with the Gold Dots like it did with the Ranger I would contact Glock as that is not acceptable.

It's a regular 30, right? Not an SF?

It is. gen 2.5 (1997).

Did yours only fail with HPs?

Yes. It was great with FMJ. It hated Ranger T, though. It was better with the +P JHP. One failure out of 97 with HST and 0 failures out of 50 with +P Ranger. The angle that it achieved in order to jam (same for yours and mine) seems pretty strange to me though. I sent it in to them and when it came back it failed about 30 rounds into Ranger. Similar failure but not quite the same. I sent it back again and hope to get a 21SF in exchange. I am still waiting on that.

I remember reading your thread - hope it turns out well for you!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's just an issue where mine doesn't like the Rangers. If I'm forced to use 230gr Gold Dots, then I'm OK with that

Gold Dots are excellent. I am hoping that when I get a 21SF as a replacement it eats everything (of course). I have 100 Ranger, 150 230gr Gold Dot and 150 230gr +P HST. I hope to carry with the Gold Dots. I really like God Dots. Excellent bullet.

If your replacement doesn't like Gold Dots, let me know. I'll be glad to take those useless things off your hands
