Gun crimes drop at Virginia bars and restaurants
http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2...est-ar-1237278
and after all that bellowing and bellyaching about how VA would have drunken shootouts daily.

And all this time I thought having a firearm within 100 feet of an open alcoholic beverage caused everyone in the room to start shooting at each other...

Been legal to carry in a bar and drink for years here in Oregon. Has not been a problem, nor has it been a problem in any other state that allows it. Much ado about nothing.

A pro-gun person visiting the Brady Facebook page is an agonizing exercise in masochism. By the way I think these buffoons are now against the Mini-14, after "protecting" it in the Clinton AWB.

The Brady idiots weren't protecting anything. Their stated mission is the complete ban of civilian firearm ownership. The only reason they would have "protected" any firearm from being banned is because it made them look "reasonable" and like they were compromising, to help them get the larger ban passed.
Make no mistake, their ultimate goal is the disarmament of the American people.

Not surprising since there are no bars in Virginia.

Wish they would pass that law in Florida. Felt naked having to go to Ybor of all places to see my buddy perform at the Improv and not be able to carry.

It would be nice if NC took note of the result.

This goes back to when liquor by the drink was made legal in Virginia. State law has permitted sale of liquor by the drink only since 1968. The restaurants and entertainment industry lobbied for that change in the 1960's, eliminating the "brown bag" requirement that customers join a "private club" and bring their own bottle to the restaurant in order to enjoy a drink before a meal. A license for onsite consumption requires the establishment to have equipment and capability to serve a meal. Here is a link to the definitions... http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...00+cod+4.1-100

Va gun law changes are the result of a lot of lobbying and grass roots work by gun owners in the state..Mostly lead by the VCDL.
If you don't like something about your states gun laws you have to work hard to change them.

IIRC, you still can't drink and carry in VA. All the law allows is to CC in a restaurant that serves alcohol, and you can't be in the bar section. Or did they allow that too...

Establishments. They're required to serve food along with drinks.

Open carrying, you can drink. Carrying concealed, no. You can sit anywhere you want.

I've spent the last several nights putting up 200 signs in support of a very progun candidate in a primary election.
Now is the time to be working hard to get these laws.changed.

Has not been a big problem in New Hampshire. We do have shootings outside of bars every so often in Manchester which is our largest city.
