7mm-08 Model 7

I have a chance to tradefor a Remington model 7 in 7mm-08 Rem. I know that round is a decent performer, but overall, how does it stack up against some of the others.

I will most likely be using this rifle for whitetail and possibly wild boar at 500 yards or less.

I would like some input on the rifle and/or the caliber...

Thanks,
Allen

Since this is the long-range shooting forum, I'll answer in that context. A 7-08 with the right twist and barrel length can be a good long-range performer- better than .308, but not quite as a balanced performance as the .260 due to low muzzle velocities with the 160-180gr bullets.

The model 7 is not a rifle typically used for, or as a base for, long-range shooting.

If you can make that particular rifle shoot 1 MOA, it would do fine shooting hogs or deer out to 500 yards.
