And yet, if the Chippers and the deputy would have called out for help and they would have swarmed, the "community activists" would have been up in arms, slinging race cards and marching on city hall.

The pols reap what they sow.

OPD is a very tough agency to work for. Lot of infighting, lack of support, a hostile public, poor resources, an absolutely deadly, violent circus in that town.

Geez Malcolm, you should have had that rifle when they came gunning for you...

I have an aquaintence in OPD. He can definitely confirm, it is a circus, a very violent circus. And the surrounding communities fare not much better.

I happened upon Stanley Roberts' channel when his video summarizing six years of ride-alongs with CHP popped up as a related video. It can be viewed here:

Since then, I've seen a handful of his videos and have noticed two things:

1) He always makes the cops look good, which is something to say for a media type.

2) His segments occasionally provide the juice to get resources diverted to a specific problem area.

So...maybe this is the catalyst to getting some enhanced enforcement on these idiots.

Oakland is the elephant in the room in the Bay Area. Everyone knows it is a ****hole but no politician wants to admit it.

To be quite frank those units probably did nothing because they were likely the only free units in town.

The Riders case crippled OPD. The amount of Federal oversight/restrictions is astounding. The number of seasoned OPD Officers leaving for other depts is also quite large, and the ones I work with were more than happy to leave.

I agree. As long as, if I have work to pay for my dog, my rifle and my club, then you should have to work to pay for your dog, your rifle and your club too.

That's my definition of equality.

Pretty crazy.

Fairly confident if that happened where I am at we would have rolled over them like a Roman Legion marching through Carthage at the end of the Second Punic War.

Of course our citizens take a much dimmer view of that type of person and behavior.

Pretty dang sad that the people there have decided to allow such lawlessness to exist. Then again, if that's what they really want, to hell with them. Build a wall and let Snake Plissken deal with it or something.

My family and I drove through a little bit of Oakland a few years ago during a trip to SF. We instantly noticed how bad it was with hookers screaming at their pimps and I think there was a physical altercation in the same area. We hightailed back across the bridge ASAP. That video is a true depiction of that place.

And it's not like SF is free of problems but they shoo the troublemakers out of the tourist areas.

My wife and I once walked from the SF Center to Japantown and ended up in the Tenderloin. Something seemed off until I saw the Tenderloin station and I realized why it looked like we weren't in KS anymore. All we had to do was go 6 blocks north and it was "normal."

When my co-workers and I travel annually to the Urban Shield event in the cesspool called Oakland, we all carry 2 spare mags and our "war" guns. Last year there was an anti-LE demonstration outside the place where the event was held. Nothing happened other than a bunch of trash-talking by scumbags. Other than that, I try to stay away from that town.

There is a reason why so many cops retire and leave California. I don't see many retiring and saying to their family, "Ya know? I love Oakland. Let's buy our retirement home here!"

They are probably all so financially strapped from the screwing they got on retirement benefits, that buying a house is the last thing on their mind.

And yet the fearless leaders of Oakland live in the lap of luxury.

I wouldn't trade my lot for theirs.
