Glock 17L Spotted

Had a look yesterday at a MV Date Code 2nd generation Glock 17L that was in pretty nice condition for being 20 years old & the seller was asking $475 OTD..
I will see him again in two weeks..
BTW it didn't have the case or 15/17 round magazines etc but did come with one G18 33round magazine..
Also I saw two early 17L tupperware cases for sale at a guys table at one of the local gunshows for $15ea.. Hope there still available if I end up picking the 17L up..
Would $475 be a decent price for a MV date coded = April 1990 G17L in 92% condition with only the one magazine??
I've always liked the feel of the 2nd Generation Glocks as the finger grooves just don't feel right to my hand..
I also have noticed that the earlier G17s took a different slide stop lever with a tab on it that is different than the current style that I have a couple of in my stash of parts..

Sounds like a reasonable price to me. The longslide Glocks are very cool. They balance really well to me. You could probably find a 3rd gen for around 500 though. But be careful, a dealer at a gunshow told me they broke the mold for the 17L and the 24. I told him they make runs of them and he insisted the BROKE THE MOLD for them.

You might want to jump on it then.

$475 out the door? I paid more for my 2nd Gen 17L, but I just HAD to have it. Don't see too many 17L models come on the market, even more rare to see a 2nd Gen.

Yea, that's a great price for a 17L, especially if it's in the good condition you say. I would call him up and tell him you'll take it at that price, he might up the price in two weeks.

Yea, the slide stop lever is a bit different on the earlier ones, I noticed that too...

SCORED GLOCK 17L TODAY

Today I went back to the Gunshow because the 17L I saw yesterday was talking..
Picked the G17L with one 17rd factory magazine for $425.. What a friend & what a deal.
The original owner of the pistol told me he bought it new in 1990 & has shot maybe 500 rounds threw it & that it had also "Never Been Cleaned" Ever..
I looked it over & it has the extended magazine release button, fixed rear sight in - size, captured recoil spring, factory 3.5lb connector, It also has had the upgraded trigger bar & firing pin already installed..Must have seen an armourer once??
The slide release lever is the newer style but was a flat factory one, I added a factory extended lever to it today..
The guns was filthy & took 10+ patches & 30+ Q-Tips & about an hour of time to clean it up really good & lubricate, BTW the gun was dry except for the old gold lube that was put on it 20 years ago by Glock..
Date Code of MV dates the gun to April of 1990..
The guy also had a G26 that is talking to me as well..
I'll see him again in two weeks, We'll have to wait & see on that one..
I saw another guy yesterday who had two 17L tupperware cases but they had packed up & their table was bare.. I'll see them again too..

This place is Going to "L"

Looks like I need to pick up a 2 pin slide stop lever with the spike limiter as the lever that was in this pistol was for the 3 pin pistols, I installed the factory extended one from my stash but want the correct type in the pistol..
Also the connector is a "-" style with an S on the bottom, well anyhow a LWD 3.5lb connector feels much better than the one the pistol came with, breaks better..
I also had the striker sleeve pull out when I was cleaning the firing pin channel so I'll wanna pick one of those up too..
I may also pick up a new trigger spring & recoil spring/rod assembly as well..
Also want a nice set of sights, would prefer fiber optic front but don't want the front sight hanging out over the cut out in the slide..
Have been looking around at the Dawson & Warren/Sevigny sights..
http://www.dawsonprecision.com/Glock+Fiber+Optic+Inserted+Front+Sights
http://www.warren_sevigny_sights.htm
Might just pick up a fiber optic front and a factory adjustable rear sight..
I may post a WTB in the classifieds as I'd bet there's alot of guys with the factory adjustable in their parts stash..

Enjoy Fellas we need to get some more traffic in this section..
I guess long slide Glocks aren't real popular compared to the smaller easier to conceal sub compacts..
The guy I scored the 17L from also has an early G26 too..
I'm gonna have to try an sell my Ruger P-89 this next weekend to get the cash needed to score the G26..

I have no idea the amount of them made over the G17 but it would be quite different..
I've wanted a G17L since the Early 90s & have only seen a few in the last 20 years for sale in person & I go to a lot of gunshows, Every one within 100 miles, almost every weekend..
There's always a couple 17Ls for sale on Gunbroker..

I was looking for a 17L and found a 24 at Academy in Nov. it was discounted also. The box had not been opened. This 24 is a shooter along with my 34 OD. I'll find a 17L oneday myself. Once you shoot a Longslide your hooked to me. Congrats on your 17L looks great. I found a couple G17's gen 2 i assume no finger grooves in very good condition. But a 17L is on my list.

Thanks for the pics. That sure looks like it will be a shooter. If you have time let me know how the sights do when you shoot your very nice 17L. It looks great. Longslides to me are just a thrill to shoot. My 24 is the only .40 i own but a G35 in feb. I bought a case of Fed Classic 155gr@1200fps from a 4 in barrel i bet more from my 24. Thanks looks like this part of GT is getting a second chance. David

Your Welcome!!
I too have noticed that this part of the forum seems pretty dead..

I picked up a G26 to use as a 2nd Bug when my S&W 940 isn't the primary carry weapon..
I really likes my 17L & have wanted one since around 1988..

She's a beaut!

I have yet to see a 17L or a 24 in person, and my 34 is one of 4 34/35's i've seen.

My 34 didnt even work when I got it but was a fun project for sure!

What "Didn't Work" on your G34 Hackett??

What I really like now is having my 17L & training with it & using the G26 for a carry weapon
I don't want to put any extended controls on the G26 as their not needed & could cause problems when carried in an IWB Holster..

first off, it had a squishy trigger, and the striker light striked, secondly the slide lock didnt always catch, and it had a 2 for 10 FTE.

I replaced the pins as one didnt even look like a glock pin, then I replaced the trigger block and springs, then I replaced the very worn spring cups, and and finally, the slide lock.

It's a 2 pin, and fortunately it wasnt my first glock and the guy let me know it had issues up front.

It was full of grime and I spent quite some time detail stripping and completely cleaning it. But how a 1998 Ser # glock got so cruddy, ill never know. my best bet is the guy didnt use anywhere near the right lube let alone a gun lube. felt like gear/tool grease full of grime and powder and sand.

It's ok though as she has a good owner now, who takes good care of her and she is quite the shooter! been a fun project actually

trigger pull is at 3.41 lbs and she has nice crisp pull/break, leaves a perfect primer strike, and going back to the 6 lb striker spring def made that all happen. I had the pull at 2.8-2.9 lbs with a 4lb striker spring and yeah...light strikes like crazy and it was spongy, but happily not an issue now. All my fellow shooters I go to the range with tell me they want my 34, but i have no plans to get rid of it! LOL Actually looking for a better rail for it at the moment.

Almost sounds like someone lubed the firing pin channel threw the rubbish port in the bottom of the slide..
Mine also needed new channel liner & spring cups + springs..
Still need to get a factory striker spring & recoil rod assembly..
