Silver closed at $29.30 yesterday. I started buying at $11 and was nervous that I was getting in at the top.

Well I finally found someone selling for a reasonable price around here @ $1.25 over spot...and I'm hoping it stays below $30 long enough for me to buy some tomorrow. I scraped together enough for a few rolls and dammit I'm going to finally get a bar or two as well...
I figure if some unforeseen miracle happens and our currency gains a lot of value, I'll be out a few grand. But if we stay on course, at least I'll have enough to see me through for a few months (with what I have total). Plus I'll keep adding to it each month until our currency is next to worthless.

EMT - did you ask him why he's selling at below market rates? Is he trying to lure people into buying silver so he can get his FRNs back before it crashes?

That is EXACTLY the reason I started buying PM's in the first place: Insurance!

So I set out to buy 80oz. And after going to two different shops, I ended up with 79.
I got a cool 10oz. bar, 25 bars and the rest rounds.
Now the 64 dollar question is... do I clean the tarnish off the 10 or so that are REALLY bad looking or do I let them go? I think aluminum foil, warm water, and baking soda will take it off without screwing up the texture/surface of the metal. But anyway...what are your thoughts?

I have cleaned up a few I had. Tarn-X is safe and the easiest to use. Dip the coin in for 4-5 seconds, rinse with water, dry, and you are done. I got mine at Ace hardware.

I've heard that if you clean them, they tarnish quicker and worse than before...
This is why I was figuring the baking soda/aluminum foil would be the least abrasive.
Thanks!

I don't know about that. It has only been a year and a half so they MAY re-tarnish at some point but for a 4 second cleaning every 18-24 months I can SQUEEZE that in.

I love the look of fine silver bars, I have some really cool 8 ounce ones. I clean mine with jewelry cleaner and then put on another product that is a sealer. Looks really good.

That's the great thing about this stuff is that once you do it, your done. It's meant to be used on jewelry that is worn every day.

Why clean them unless you are trying to sell them? Seriously. Why?
