Mark 23 discontinued

Over at the official HK forums they just announced that production of the Mark 23 will cease. Thoughts?

http://www.hk-usa.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7949

I'm not too broken up about it. I'm interested in getting a USP not the Mark 23. Not to say that the gun isn't cool. Just not what I was interested in.

Providing they couldn't really sell it when it was in production, I think mercy killing that model is a good idea.

Ever since it was introduced, it was always stated "limited production", yet they could always be found online, gunshows and local gunshops.

I hope folks who have them and want to sell them don't jack the prices up now. I plan on getting one in the near future.

They take them out of production every 2-3 years. They'll be back.

Maybe when they come back, they will be in 10mm.

(I can dream can't I??)

Oh, man, that would be SWEET!!! I love mine, but I'm not a huge fan of .45 ACP (I'm convinced that "ACP" stands for "All Case & Primer"), 10mm would be the bomb!

Probably the best thing about the MK 23 was that it gave us the USP and subsequently the HK45 and P30. From what I understand, the design features of the MK 23 made their way into the USP and their decendants. As long as the USP, HK45, and P30 are still around, then I'm not too broken up by the Mk 23 being discontinued.

I don't have any use for a pistol quite that large. For me, it's either concealable or home defense. The MK 23 is neither, really.

I'm sure you'll always be able to find them.

HK built quite a few.

It is frickin' monster pistol. Right up there with Desert Beagle.

Still, it is just cool as hell. Has a Dirty Harry vibe about it. Someone points that at you it says "You are effed" even before the trigger is pulled. And with a supressor....

Not surprised. NSW was issued HK45c suppressor ready versions (tall sights, threaded barrels) a few months ago. Nobody ever buys the Mk 23 so they killed it.

There's at least 4 other H&K .45s that are much less ridiculous.

Guys? HK "Discontinues" the Mark 23 every couple of years. They stop production and restart it again later. The gun isn't going to be out of production for quite some time.

You are 100% correct, however, the difference this time is that the military unit(s) that were using the pistol have moved on to a different HK, so that might play a role in whether or not they keep producing it going forward.

I rememeber when the MK 23 Mod 0 was issued to SOCOM. There's a reason it stays in the armory. It is a great gun, indestructable, runs in all sorts of stuff, but it ain't small and it is unwieldy.
