Cheap trick for 22LR

While not technically a reloading topic, I'm guessing a few of you still fire off some 22LR. Since getting a dedicated 22LR upper for the AR, I've been going through more .22LR. I liked the way CCI came/comes in their cases; but I buy bulk packs. Hard to keep track of what you have left, boxes spilling at the range, etc. I found that the Midway 45ACP boxes hold 22LR rounds just fine. I can put 4 rounds in a cavity. 20 rounds per 5 cavity row, 200 rounds per box. Keeps the ammo well organized, takes up less space in the range bag, I know how much has been shot and remains, easy to shake out 4 or 20 rounds at at time.

I use the Midway #508 box (<$2.00) http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...ber=2124147570

I know MTM makes dedicated 22LR boxes; but the price on them is crazy ($12/box holds 100 rounds) http://www.sinclairintl.com/product/...fhu=3130383136

You've been hanging out with Steve too long. Count your ammo by "handfuls", you'll live longer.

When I am done shooting the stuff at the range that I reload, I always pull out the 22 and go through at least a few hundred rounds before I leave. As far as knowing how many I have shot and how many I have left, I always have a brick with me, and when I get down to 6 or 7 bricks on the shelf at home, I know it's time to go out and get some more and restock. I grab by the handfulls, pour them into my ultimate cliploader and load up the clips for my ruger MKII.

I keep track of my 22 ammo like this.

Eley, by the brick and by the case.

Federal bulk pack, by 550 round box.

Some old Remington Golden bullet garbage, by the 30 caliber ammo can.

I would hate to think how much 22 I have on hand. North of 50K I would guess.

I probably have about 25K rounds (maybe more). I leave them in the bulk pack until I'm ready to open up another box. Then I'll move it to the plastic boxes.

6000+ fit in a .50 ammo can.

Why fool with little boxes?

Mine 22LR stay in their original boxes. Bulk packs, grab a box and put it in the bag. 22 is the first I shoot when I arrive at the range. Makes it easy to settle into a groove before moving to the larger calibers.

The rimfire bug is like crack especially, the nifty little 1022 clones. I find myself shooting them more and more. I've got 3 custom builds now and just finished this one this morning.

Reloading

These things will shoot, too. Finally got to try my next-to-last build bench gun at 50 yards last week when the winds were normal. Six, 5-shot groups with an average of .280 made me a very happy camper.

Let me guess, your ghillie suit is constructed of Crayola crayons and M&M's.

Very nice shooter indeed... the only way I could shoot that measurement is to use 'one very big bullet'.

I'm in. Steve thinks pretty much like I do (or vice-versa... ).

Logic, engineering, and a "there's any old way" of doing things versus figuring out what's the "best way".

Plus just plain common sense.

Sure, just give him big wet kisses for his groups, nothing but hate for mine.

He had a dime on the target to show the size of his groups... you had an unreadable caliper.

Besides, do you think anyone who carries a rifle that looks like a rainbow is gonna lie about how it shoots... there has to be at least one socially redeeming value.

Good tip. I use the 50 round 17 HMR plastic boxes just take out the tray and they hold approx 100 rounds. Best part about them is they're free because people leave them at my local range.
