Yes, and I won't be alone either!

I came across this post that you wrote years ago. It still applies.

Quote:
I was re-reading this and found myself thinking how many times I've wished I could just completely disconnect my mind and leave to to drift off, never to bother me again. Of course then I'd spend the rest of my life in on of those places you mentioned with little garden and friendly attendants dressed in white. Maybe I wouldn't even feel the physical pain either. But the reality is that I if I was like that I may as well be dead, since I wouldn't really have a life either. I guess Giving Up has a bunch of different ways to talk to me. Problem is he can make his case so well sometimes...
He's trying again. Don't let him.

Yeah, and he brought some buddies with him. Chest pain is having a ball with me, expecially since this cold arrived. Luckily it's mostly gone now. Some of the others are screwing with me, too.

They better not get too close, or I'll think they're my shrink and rip their faces off!

LW what's day to day like? Is it similar to before?
Do you need anything? I think I still have some unopened dried apples from
before after learning Zonny's trick.

My day is pretty similar to before, except that I'm busier. Same kind of work, just more of it. Not that I mind, I like what I do. I think I help keep the soldiers safer, plus it keeps me busy, except when I'm at the doc, shrink or terrorist. I do spend too much time there, but as my doc finally said, I should take advantage of it while it lasts. He doesn't have much faith in me getting better care from the VA when I go back home, either.

I can't think of anything I need except more pain meds and sleep.

Amen to that! I could use a lot more of that than I have. And how about a guilt-free conscience?

How about you forgive yourself for something that was not your fault. Haven't you punished yourself enough?

LW,
I don't know you but I have read a little about you here on GT. It seems you have a few good friends from here. I'm betting you make good friends everywhere you go.

From a stranger, I wish you well, and hope things keep getting better for you.

Stay safe,
Joe

Hey Wolfe...do you still have your fuzzy bathrobe with you? Is it getting a little worn and ragged? Does Mandy need a new friend? Do you need a new friend to give Mandy a break from the tears? Mandy has put in a lot of time with your tears wetting her fur! (though she does get away with lots when she steals your homemade goodies!) Just wondering, would you allow anyone to send you a new robe or a new friend for you and Mandy?

I know I'm not being brave, or a hero or anything, but I do know what I do makes a difference in the safety of our soldiers. For that reason I take it very seriously.

And thank you.

It's not like I want to, but I do still blame myself some for what happened. No, I wasn't the one to pull the triggers on us, but I could have kept from being there. Greg wouldn't have had to try to get to me if I wasn't there.

Thank you, I appreciate that.

I really don't make friends easy at all. In person I'm very socially awkward and not at all good at beaing a friend. I try, but just can't.

Yep, the robe and Mandy are both here. The robe is a bit dogeared, but still has lots of life left. As for Mandy, she's ready to mutiny as usual, but would probably think I was going to stuff her in a footlocker if she saw another kitty. I might be the one with my face ripped off!

If not you, he would have tried to save someone else. He rushed out to you even though it appeared that you were already gone.

This is kind of "It's a Wonderful Life" thing. Who knows what those Hajis might have done to other people if they hadn't been killed, or who knows a life you saved through your work who would be dead if you weren't here now. I do know you've affected lives here, and in a good way. You've inspired people to keep going.

You have nothing for which to feel guilty or ashamed.

Now write that letter to Greg and tell him how proud you are to have known a real hero.

I've tried to stay out of this, rather than say the wrong thing (it's my forte in life)....but....

Wolfe, what's done is done. you can't change that, nor can I or anyone else, as much as we may want to. you have beat yourself up pretty bad over it. at the end of the day, fate stepped in. you being there was incidental to what went down. at some base level, you know this.

on our headstones are 2 dates. when we are born, and when we die. in between, is a dash.

what that dash equals is up to you. you have made a difference in people's lives. is what it is. maybe that's why you came out of that ****hole of a country in one piece. you have people that love you, and care about you, that have never met you. do you get that? when I die, if anyone remembers me after 35 seconds will be a ******* miracle. you need to stop beating yourself up, look at all of the potential you have, and live up to it.

I never met Greg. somehow, I get the feeling, he's desperately trying to reach down, and smack you across the back of the head, to say "Hey! you need to stop bum-kicking yourself!"

Woman, for those that love you, LIVE!

off my soapbox, rant over, I mean no offense, and am sorry if I have.

I appreciate so much what you are doing to keep our troops safe. There aren't a lot of people who can say that about their jobs. My goodness, girl, please TRY to stop beating yourself up. Honey, you were shot and unconscious when he made that decision. You are saving lives. Please dwell on that, not the other. We love you so much.
