My shrink worked in that some today, plus I showed him what Mandy said I dream about some nights. He didn't say much about it, just read it over, asked a few questions, then said we might talk more about it later.

Do your docs still monitor you while you sleep to see what your body does during the nightmares? I really wish that you didn't have to go through those every time you go to sleep. I'm also wondering if maybe the meds have something to do with bringing on the nightmares as well. Flexiril gave me some nasty nightmares & bizarre dreams when I tried it years ago. Needless to say, I avoid that stuff like the plague!

The one common denominator to the nightmares that Mandy reported is that you get shot. The dreams have varying details, but that one thing starts them all. So we have to change that.

I want you to take this part of your story, which I've rewritten to present tense, and pick it up from here. But I want you to change the outcome. Remember, this is a dream, so the laws of physics don't apply. You can change line of sight, your physical abilities, what you had with you, etc. Just don't get shot. And don't be flippant. Change helplessness to powerful. You are in command of the outcome.

ASSIGNMENT:
We lock and load, and wait. The back door of the MRAP goes down. We get the command.

“Go!”

Greg hauls ass and I’m right behind him, but it’s hard to run with all my gear on and carrying my rifle. Adrenalin kicks in and helps me to run my fastest.

Two Afghanis jump up from rocks behind the 3rd MRAP and start shooting. Greg dives behind the rocks.

I can see the muzzle flash from the AK’s, and the bullet is traveling towards my chest in slow motion.

They'ce dome that several times, actually. For a while they thought maybe the trouble I have breathing was causing them, or at least making them worse. They even took video of me and send it off to some specialist, who said it was inconclusive, but that he thinks the breathing attacks weren't causing most of the nightmares. They also make me stay and be watched whenever they want to try me out on a new sleep cocktail. They're watching both for a change for the worse in my nightmares and for a bad reaction like stopping breathing altogether. That sort of thing might be bad for my life expectantcy.

Yes, dear. The pain is about the usual, which means it hurts like hell, but not so bad I can't move. I'm just a bit down because of finding out a friend wasn't what they seemed to be. It happens to anyone who chooses to trust someone from time to time, I think. That and my shrink tried to wear me out today and I think he succeeded.

Thanks, I need the and am hugging back. I don't feel so strong, but just still a little hurt. My shrink was asking a few things when I told him a little about it and he asked what I would do to stop the person from doing what they did. He seemed surprised when I told him nothing. I said unless the person was doing something that slandered or caused me real harm then I didn't have the right to stop them from saying what they wanted to, even though it hurt me. I reminded him that one of the things I fought and almost died for was people's right of free speech, even if I don't like the speech. He agreed with me there. Then there's what my physical terrorist did to me today too, and I need another hug. Just don't squeeze.

Have you ever wished you could have dropped to the ground quickly and the bullet missed like all the others? Make it happen in here. Come up with some alternate ending that keeps you uninjured.
