Here are some great scriptures to replace negative self-talk about sleeping. Read them throughout the day or before going to bed and trust God to give you sleep and rest He desires us to have!

Psa 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

Psa 127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Pro 3:24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Isa 57:2 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

There are more, but I will share them with you later. It helps me just to pray them...to know that this is what God wants for me (and for you).

I love your friends who just wrote to you, LW. They are such strong men. They care so much about you and are so full of wisdom. Listen to what they say and try to internalize it...you did nothing to deserve any of this!!! You are not paying any kind of penance. This is simply a result of war. You have NOTHING to feel responsible for. I love you, friend, and I love your honesty. It will be much more therapeutic in the long run, than trying to sound strong when you don't feel it. I am soooooo proud of you!! We will be praying for peaceful sleep, but keep being honest about how you are feeling.

I love my friends who write to me too, more that I can tell you. But I think they and you know. When I wrote that about how the nightmares haven’t let off I was thinking maybe I should delete it all before I submit, because “Oh, they won’t want to hear this crap, they like for me to sound positive”. But reading the responses I see I was wrong. Sure, everyone likes an upbeat person, but you people really do understand that I just can’t always be that way. I’m not even that way all the time normally. And I do gain a lot from all of the things you say, whether it’s a response to something good or bad.

I had a conversation with my shrink today that your post makes me think of. She was talking to me again today about my nightmares and why I'm not making any progress with them. She asked me when was the last time I just broke down and cried. I told her that I wake up crying from almost every one. The only ones I don't are the ones I wake up screaming but fortunately that's happening a lot less since I got off all the pills. She said "No, I mean really cry. Until you feel like you can't cry anymore". I told her I haven't done that here at all. She said that was part of my problem. She told me to find someone if that would help and bawl on their shoulder. Or find a way to do it by myself.

Who in the hell lets their guard down like that in a war zone?

ETA - I couldn't let go and cry when I was in the States back in June either, so I think the location doesn't matter. Guess I just need a knock upside the head from the proverbial two-by-four...

The battle's going one step at a time, and the prayers are gratefully accepted. So are your kind words.

The Army won't send me out on anymore convoys but if they did I would wear 3 plates plus something even stronger. I would post about it in here and wear a force field made of GT'ers prayers and good thoughts. If that didn't keep me safe nothing would.

Also, surround yourself with things that make you laugh. "A merry heart maketh good like a medicine." Funny movies, comedy routines, etc. (I hope it doesn't hurt to laugh)
Love you.

Hi LW. The prayers, good thoughts and encouragement, are offered up willingly, by those of us on here. We want nothing but the best, for you and your sisters and brothers, in arms. The well being of you and your brothers and sisters, in arms is most important to us.

If the Army, even thought about sending you out on another convoy, I would start knocking heads, on someone, just to get their attention. After, I got their attention, I would show them, that the force field, made up of prayers and good thoughts, from us GT'ers, was so big, that you could not even fit in the truck. The size of the truck, wouldn't matter. Whatever size truck, they brought in, the size of the force field, would just keep growing, so that you wouldn't fit. If that didn't work, then I would have to put the Afghani Stomp, on them.

I know that you are working hard, to beat these demons, and you will prevail. You have the American can do attitude, along with the prayers, good thoughts and love, of a lot of people backing you. We will willingly, make sure that you prevail.

May tomorrow, be better than today, and each day thereafter, be better than the day before!!!

Love you.
Some of you guys in GNG have done a pretty good job of cracking me up lately.

Days like today when the weather is changing it hurts to laugh a bit. Actually it hurts to exist, but oh well. Beats the alternative. This morning my doc was looking at me and I asked if he would give me something "for the changing weather". He asked where I hurt and I pulled my robe open far enough to grab a pen from his pocket and draw a vertical line all the way down the center of my chest. He looked at that and said "Yup, you're right. Weather change. My elbow says so".

And No, texasglong, I don't have a pic.

Would you spank me?

this afternoon is going by OK, I've had stuff to keep me occupied for a change. I doubt I'll have any dreams tonight, thanks to a good knock-out. That's a damn sight better than the dreams I had every time I tried to sleep last night.

OK, I'll tell the embarrassing story - I dropped my new bike, a honda cbr1000rr in a parking lot and my trying to lift it back up (it's 440lbs and 25 years ago I would have snatched it up w/o a sweat), but an old back injury kicked in and I'm feeling the pain in my back and down my right leg. Anyway, I'm 48 now and when I had the first injury I was a hardcore weightlifting/bodybuilding type and I thought it was the end of the world. Afterwards, my back healed up somewhat and I started back into moderate lifting (no squats, deadlifts, bent rows - anything that would stress the lower back) and got into bicycling/running and was pretty happy since I could get the old exercise fix.

My body healed reasonably well and though I lived for weightlifting at the time I found other things to make me feel good. Anyway, LW, your posts of your situation and struggles help put things in perspective and provide a good example for the rest of us.

Keep us posted and stay strong for yourself and the rest of us

Hey Jefs, we're the about same age and one thing I can tell you is that we don't heal so quick anymore, so be nice to that back!

And you're making me miss my bike, hope I can ride again eventually.

I don't think I'm that good of an example. You folks are the good example for me.

No, Lone_Wolfe you ARE a good example for the rest just by sharing your experiences - pain, bad nightmares, and all. We read your words and understand a little bit of your world and that helps us deal with the difficulties we may face in our lives. Human connection is not to be underrated . Hey, if I got hurt, I'd crawl into a hole and keep to myself and try to heal on my own and nobody would be the wiser concerning my situation.

So, I'm hoping the best for you, and know you'll have tough days, but I hope you move past the bad times and start coming into the better times soon.

Best,
Jefs
