For Windows, I always liked Audiograbber... even used it when it was shareware. Now that its Freeware, it makes it all the better.

if you're looking to create and have a library cataloged....then you could download the Zune software (I'm assuming you're on windows) and use that....

I love my Zune, but he Zune software is the biggest piece of crap I've ever used in my life.
Would not recommend going that route, unless you have to (ie you have a Zune)..

+1 for Audiograbber... although I still use version 1.62 from the year 2000, haven't tried a newer one.

Don't you have a MAC - if so use iTunes. The interface is unmatched and I can walk you through how to..............
A. Use you computer to DL music into your portable player. We'll you don't need me for that.
B. How to use that same computer and iTunes as a very high quality audio server, out-puting 24 bit 96 kHz flies via the mini-optical output or 24 bit 44.1 via USB.
_______
If you have a computer with XP there is another option that might even be better.

Audiograbber is really good... But Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is better.

Cheap, quick and dirty way is to rip with media player and select MP3 as the format.

I use Windows Media Player as well. It's built into windows, free, and works. To validate tag data, I use MP3Tag, it's a free program. http://www.mp3tag.de/en/

Another vote for Exact Audio Copy (EAC). I've used it for years. It retries on hard to read areas of the disk, and notifies if there was a problem. Result: known good mp3s with no skips/errors.

I've had a lot of luck using this freebie for format conversions.

Are you just looking to rip CDs to MP3 or WMA? If so use Windows Media Player. I use the Zune software most of the time and have never found a need outside those two to use anything else.
