Affordable FFL dealer in Houston?

I'm thinking of buying my next Glock online, and I was wondering what is a reasonable amount to pay for transfers? Top Gun of Houston charges $75.

Does Academy do transfers?

Fountain Firearms out on Hwy 6 will do transfers for you. Academy does not.

Top gun is so high on prices, I think you need to be high to want to use them...

As posted, FF on HWY6 @ Bissonet will do them. I've never had transfers done, but do know people who have, I have bought from them before - would use again.

I think Carters does them, but again on being high. You could try Pruett's in CyFair, never asked about transfers, but they make Carters prices look good.

Might try the Arms Room in League city (517 west of 45), bought from them, never transferred. Thier listed price is 20 rifle / 30 Pistol on transfers, dunno if that was pre-Obama.

IMO, your best bet would be to put an add in the want adds here, listing that you are looking for someone to do transfers in the Houston area. I know that there are at least a few guys who would do it, but I do not want to put them on the spot by giving names.

That's a rip off. $25-30 is normal in my experience. Go find another FFL in your area that is honest and interested in repeat business.

I use a pawn shop up in Spring for my transfers. They charge $25. If you buy more than one gun and they come in the same shipment they'll still only charge $25. Call around to the pawn shops that sell firearms, more than likely they'll do transfers.

Try Memorial Oaks Shooting Center. Great guys to deal with there, ask for Daryl, or Richard. I believe they are 25 or 30 bucks. Also if your lookinig for G19's they got 'em, $560 I believe. http://memorialshootingcenter.com/Home.html

I'm working with a forum member right now that does transfers as a side gig. Mark has been extremely responsive and easy to work with. He's on the NW side of town if that helps you at all. And it'll run you 20 bucks.

I got some negative feedback here locally when I tried to find an FFL for this transfer. Since I go to Houston for work all the time, this was a no-brainer.

Try this web site - uses your zip code

http://www.gunbroker.com/User/DealerNetwork.asp

I would ask if they plan to charge you sales tax on the PURCHASE price of the gun - a few of them do - IMO this is not required unless the gun is SOLD in Texas - but two of the places I called still wanted to charge me - so screw them.

This is who I was planning on using - no sales tax charged on the gun

Jason, I think Arms Room is on 518. That's only about 2 miles from me and I just found out about the place 2 weeks ago.

Prodefense, in Webster will do transfers but I don't know what the charge in now.

$30.00 transfer fee. Two transfers in the last month. I was in and out.

I was looking around like you for these two transfers. I didn't want to pay much. I got the FFL dealers in my area from Gunbroker. Called the cheapest ones only to find out that they had raised their price recently. I was shocked that Obama-mania had raised transfer fees also.

Memorial is close and since they are a shooting range I can go when they are open and get my stuff. That was important for me because I work crazy hours.

Re:Houston ffl

Lone Star Pawn on Long Point $20, no sales tax.
10 ring on Jones Road $20, don't know about sales tax.
I bought a Sig rifle from Top Gun Ohio not too long ago and Lone Star was on their list of Approved FFl holders. Peace of cake.
Hope this helps,
Alan

I used to do it thru Jim Pruett, only because he was 5 minutes from me.
$35 per gun. Transferring 2 guns will cost you $70. Forget that.
Now, I used Armory Management & Supply Services (AMSS-USA.com), http://amss-usa.com/static/about-us
$15 for CHL holders, $20 without, for the first gun, and $5 for each additional gun. They are a fairly new shop, on Jones and FM1960. Very nice folks to deal with.
