"It hard to swallow, but YES the 10mm is closer to a 357magnum then anything else." I know you think a 44 mag walks on water, but it doesn't. Also a 10mm is stronger than a 357 mag, and is actually closer to a 41 mag.

Ok...

The only possible difference I can think of is if you start to push a cartridge in the chamber and change your mind, you can pull it back out with the M77 action, but not the 700. The Mauser claw extractor saves you the agony of sticking your fingers in the open action to pull out the cartridge.

I'd agree it can top a .357 mag... and it's max potential can get you into .41 mag range. So what. You're still pulling a horse trailer with a V6 and overworking the crap out of your gun. I don't think anybody's argued that the .44 mag is the end-all, be-all of handgun cartridges. Dick Casull put a stamp on that in 1957. Again... so what. He's been surpassed since then.

Let me know when they develop a 240 grain 10mm load. Then we'll talk about 300 grainers.

Very wrong on all points. If you take the weakest of .41 magnums and the heaviest of the 10mm load than you would be correct. But I'm not going to argue with you. Just fine me one 2xx+ grain load from a 10mm that goes over 1400fps. and near 1k ft/lb?

Just one...

I can show you quite a few 41magnum loads. In fair comparison a 10mm is not a 44 or 41 magnum it does not close the gap to either of the 2 big boys and in reality it's in the 357magnum range.

Where the 41 magnum came into is for person looking for less recoil than a 44mag which can be brutal.

Sounds good Noway and Steve...

Man I have all my life been shooting 22.0 grs of 2400 under a 255gr Keith in my 44mag's from 4 5/8" to 7 1/2". My next favorite is the milder 18.5grs 2400.

For real hard hitting large dangerous game loads in 44 mag, a dose of 20.0/23.0 H110 255gr to 275gr to the 300 Hard Cast.

45LC sees a great deal of 2400 as well, and my 300gr hard cast with 23.0 H110 will deal with anything that walks the planet. This load is NOT needed for smaller game such as deer/antelope etc. 1,000/1100fps is more than enough for deer size game.

BTW.. I too own "two" 10mm's, there is NO comparison not even close to a 44mag or 45LC.

As has been said twice I think, and I agree, the 10mm's are closer to a 357mag, Which I still prefer over the 10mm, but the 10's are not going to remotely be placed in a category with the 44 mag amd 45LC.

Sorry 10mm fans, it won't work...

Alaska's mosquitos?

My entire state is a drained swamp. You can get into boxing matches with our mosquitos, and they can win.

41 mag, 10mm, 44 mag, 357 mag. Pffff. Get a 454 Casul. Yes the 460 and 500 S&W are bigger badder, but most folks can't shoot them.
I have got a Ruger Alaskan Super Redhawk in 454 that is the woods gun.
30-06 or bigger? The 7X57 is awsome. Also know as the .275 Rigby. It has put many a animal on the ground in Africa and Alaska, including Elephant.
Depending on what you hunt depends on what caliber you take.
The 338 is accurate and powerful. Plenty of punch for Brown Bear. Then again the 7mm mag will do just fine to as a do all gun.
Bottom line is take the hardest hitting caliber that you can shoot accurately.

Mosquito spray, Raid outdoor fogger, and mosquito coil (neat stuff, but don't breath it).

As for firearm the usual apply. Only animal of concern is a Grizzly Bear. For Grizzly defense a 12 guage shotgun is usually the firearm of choice. For hunting them, perhaps a 375 H&H. To hunt big game in Alaska, you need a license and usually, a guide as well.

Good luck! It's an awesome place!
