Moving to Denver Area
Would anyone have reccomendations for good outdoor ranges in the north side (westminster, thornton)? I am quite spoiled by having an absolutely great range 3 miles from where I live now and am hoping to find one in my new home.
Web searches are depressingly thin.
Thanks in Advance

I was raised in Littleton, but have not lived there for over 25 years.
Tagged for interest!

Not much on the Northside of town. The Firing line in Aurora, The shootist in Englewood. (bad ventilation, essentialy in a basement) Blucore in Lakewood (will not let you open or conceal carry in their store, firearms must be cased.

There are no gun ranges to be found in Thornton. Your best option is to shoot at one of the public indoor ranges in the area.
The membership on all of the outdoor ranges that are anywhere near the Denver Metro area is capped. For many of them the wait time to be able to join their membership is several years.
There used to be a lot of public land areas where one could shoot for free but most of those have now disappeared.
The good news is that there are plenty of pistol and rifle matches in the Front Range area that are open to the public so that you can get some trigger time while a membership spot becomes available at one of the outdoor ranges.

Thank you for the info, and ouch.
Sounds like I either take day trips on the weekend to shoot, or I introduce myself in the match scene.
See you out there.

Drucker: For a great outdoor range try the Family Shooting Center at Cherry Creek State Park in Aurora. Unfortunately it is not close to Thorton, but if you go and shoot for a few hours it may be worth the trip. You can find information with a web page search.

It's become harder and harder to find public land/outdoor shooting. Left hand (and all of boulder county) are closed do to fire h***ards
I think from Thornton area, either Pawnee or southsite may be closest

While not exactly an outdoor range you can shoot in the National Forest. I have brought a firearm along dispersed camping and got a little shooting in. There are some rules with being so far from trail, not shooting across water, across roads, etc. No range fees. You can check at one of the forest offices for more info. Not sure if fire conditions currently limit shooting, but you might want to check it out.

Blucore is pretty nice for indoor. I also highly recommend a trip up to Front Range Gun Club in Loveland. They have day passes and I shoot GSSF indoor there. Very clean. There is a new outdoor place somewhere near tritown I thought...

Thanks for all the information guys. This turned out to be a great place to live at. Found a few places to shoot and the drive (45min) is well worth it, plus since its in the mountains my wife diggs going with me.
Have to say my next search is finding a good, reasonably priced place to buy ammuntion and firearms locally. I made the mistake today of going into Gander Mountain, and while a good stock. hoooboy the prices, $699.99 for a Gen4 Glock 23. The salesman was none to happy with me when I asked why such a price when $525 was a fair rate, ohh well at least the wife found a floppy hat...

Guys up north seem to like Jensen Arms in Loveland a lot.

Jensen's is one of my favorite shops but lately I haven't been able to make it in so I don't know what ammo prices are.
If you're there take a walk down the shopping area and stop in Orchards Ace Hardware. My other favorite shop. Not always the lowest prices but nice people and they'll often bargain on guns.
