Folks I wanted to share the word that a book by a friend of mine if available free on Kindle for the next day or two.
The Book of Barkley, life and love thru the eyes of a Labrador retriever.

It is currently#5 in sales on Amazon, and I would like to see it make #1 if possible. Since it is free right now I am hoping you all will help me out. Btw, all her profits from the book really do go to help various animal rescue organizations.

Thanks
Vic

I just finished The Dirty Dozen by E M Nathanson, and Nobody Comes Back by Don Pearce (who also wrote Cool Hand Luke). Nobody Comes Back is a novel about the Battle of the Bulge. I enjoyed both very much. Amazon has been selling a lot of reissued novels from previous generations, and I've read a few.

I recently finished Devil's Guard, the allegedly true story of Waffen SS vets in the French Foreign Legion in French Indochina. After I began reading it, I realized that I had attempted to read it once before (online, I think) but only made it a few chapters. It has been debated whether it was fiction or not, and I tend to think it is fiction, and an OK story.

Next up is A Dirty Distant War, also by E M Nathanson, which continues continues the story of Major Reisman and a few survivors of the DD.

My current reading is Massacre at Oradour. Just getting started on it, but it looks to be good.

Zombies of Chronos, by Tom Ciolli

It's pretty cool. It's a different spin on Zombies. These are controlled by electronic chips and can operate independently (where they even eat each other), in a hive mind (where they follow commands and all attack the same thing), or even be controlled manually by their handlers. I particularly enjoyed the scene where teams of soldiers waste a room full of these things with their MP5/10s.

Quote:
A species from the future begins to interfere with life in New Athens. Bodies flash frozen during a space battle, begin to appear in present day with some unexpected modifications. An army of zombies controlled by technology from the future presents Zach Murphy's crew with another opportunity to narrowly cheat death.

I just finished Laura Hillenbrand's "Unbroken," which was recently released as a movie. Excellent and very inspiring read. If you are unfamiliar with her work, she also wrote "Seabiscuit," another amazing true inspiring story of human spirit during the Great Depression.

Currently reading "The National Parks--America's Best Idea" by Dayton Duncan and Ken Burns, which was the basis for the documentary series that aired several years ago. It's quite a story. If you love visiting the nation's crown jewel parks, you'll enjoy the read.
