The Model 19 is a "K" frame 357 (44is "N" frame) but the 19's cylinder is slightly longer than the 686...

I have both and being the heretic I am I prefer the Ruger Security Six. The 19 is a .38 made to tolerate .357 and my 4" "L" frame (686) weighs practically as much as my 58 or 629.The Ruger Sec-6 is all it needs to be and nothing more.

You would be thinking of the model 27, the original Magnum.
