All in all I think it's solid ammo. Perhaps there are some lots that do better than others, but I've always gotten jacket core separation with the 180gr GS, but not with the 165gr version.

That's odd. I would expect separation more with the shorter, faster bullet.

fastbolt,

Thanks for posting that picture of the 4 layer denim and 165gr. Golden Saber into the gel block. Great! Any idea at what depth the jacket separated? It looks to have still gotten good penetration.

I reload and it's one of the best bullets for reloading. You can't get most other "premium" bullets.

I know next to nothing about .40S&W but I have come to believe that Remington Golden Saber Bonded is the Rodney Dangerfield of JHP ammos, as tnoutdoors describes it. Those who have tested it reveal excellent results and convinced me to pick some of it up several months back.

I used to carry the Golden Saber 124-grain +P in my 9mm because it yielded the best overall shooting characteristics of all the premium JHP ammos I tested. I moved away from it after reading too many core/jacket separation testimonials. That said, I have high hopes for the Bonded version and from the video tests I've seen it's an under-appreciated round for what the end results demonstrate.

tnoutdoors tests have (from memory) shown the
9mm
124-grain Golden Saber +P Bonded delivering 12" penetration with excellent expansion and 125-grain
penetration of 14" with similar expansion stats, both with impressive wound track numbers. That makes me inclined to think Golden Saber Bonded rounds in other calibers are something to seriously consider --- if you can find any at this point in time.

As I recall, we were using 18" gel blocks, and you can see the entire block. We weren't doing digital video (just stills), so the precise instant in which the jacket was shed by the core wasn't recorded, although you can see where it stopped.

It is pretty nice as a component 180 grain bullet when loaded to about 1250 fps in 10mm.

I've seen too many Golden Saber's shed their jackets in testing. I prefer the bonded version. But odds are the non-bonded will work fine, though I wouldn't want to use it through a serious barrier (let's not get into the barrier shootings topic here).

I have forgotten - do any of the major cartridge makers offer a +p .40 S&W round?
